Shouldn't be. And neither should blocking the plate, but Buster Posey is a brittle bitch with glass leg bones, so we don't have that anymore either.

Absolutely. If the catcher would have stayed on the plate then no, but he cleared the path well before Rizzo took his cheapshot

I don’t really think it was dirty

But by rule it definitely was illegal and should have been called out

The catcher clearly gave PLENTY of room to get to the plate. Rizzo clearly altered his path to take out the catcher.

Pretty cut and dry case, IMHO.

40+ years ago that would have been acceptable, but times have changed and slides like that are both illegal and dirty today. The slide is in front of the batters box with his legs to the infield side. It's pretty obvious.

So are the umpires in "New York" just sitting back smoking some weed and just call shit to whatever suits them?

Until there is transparency on who is in the replay booth, this shit will continue. They are pretty consistently blowing calls. There was a Crawford HR at AT&T last year that was a no-doubter (it hit the metal trim just in front of the seats in right) that was called a double because the replay officials did not know the park parameters of AT&T. That is inexcusable.

The field umps are getting sloppier too. They blow calls consistently at first base, which is the easiest call to make. They turn almost everything over to "New York" now and if the appealing team loses, oh fuckin' well ... either way, the bullshit line about how they usually get it right might have once been true. Replay hasn't done anything to make umpiring better. It's turned it over to a dozen cameras and umps who are out of position. There is NO FUCKIN' WAY that Rizzo slide should have gone to replay. It was obvious to any ump who gives a shit. But "New York" took him off the hook for not having to boot one of the superstars of Chicago baseball -- the biggest asshole in the NL-C.

Can’t argue with any of your comments on the Umps. I don’t have an opinion on Rizzo personally, though. I don’t think the play was malicious or over zealous, it was simply outside the rules as they exist right now.

The one thing I dont understand is why Maddon wont shut up about it.

He is blaming our backup catcher

and our pitchers for not hitting Rizzo it seems.

Joe Maddon not only blamed Diaz for not properly getting out of Rizzo's way, but the Cubs manager mocked the Pirates after they failed to plunk Rizzo in retribution.

"Interesting game…," Maddon said. "They tried."

Kevin Gorman's Take 5: Five thoughts on the Pirates' slump

We probably should have hit him, but our pitching staff is really young and either missed him or didnt know what to do(only Nova isnt prearb unless im forgetting someone).

I hope someone barrel rolls into Rizzo's knees at 1st tonight just to shut Maddon up.

I know. MLB decided to add extra protections for catchers. The guy wasn't blocking the plate

All because of one little faggy catcher who's girly leg bones couldn't handle a collision.
