The year he won as the Unanimous MVP on a 73-9 record breaking season. That year was the first time I read his name in the same sentence with Michael Jordan. Although he didn't win the chip that year, his regular season performance was out of this world! That's probably an understatement. He was being named as the new face of the NBA, the best player dethroning LeBron, and all those stuff. He showed crazy shooting performances every game. Not even Kawhi was able to stop him when they faced the Spurs. That time we forgot about KD being the 2nd best player in the NBA.

Do you think that was Curry's peak?
Now that KD is on his team for more years to come, I have to say yes.
Although we saw a glimpse of that Curry when KD was out last season.

To be specific, this game was his peak in 2016:

He's not going to repeat that season for sure.

Yeah it will probably be his best single season of his career. But he will win at least 2 more rings and be a top 8 player for a while, and be one of the top paid too. I'm sure he's fine with it.

This is the biggest problem with how people evaluate players in the NBA. Too much is based on statistical output which is a function of opportunity.

Curry is every bit as good now as he was in 2016. He just doesn't need to do nearly as much. 2016 was definitely his peak from a statistical standpoint. But, he wasn't really on LeBron's level then, let alone Jordan's. Just like Westbrook and Harden aren't on that level now. They merely have the opportunity to produce the best stats.

Those unbelievable unhuman plays Curry did in 2016 on a nightly basis cannot be seen on stats sheet.
Being able to shoot as crazy as that can never be seen again any time soon.

He still has that ability.

But, his shot selection has to change because he isn't the best scorer on his own team anymore. It is a function of opportunity.

It was his best season whether KD had joined or not. And please don't mention him with the GOAT again, that was short term hype that never belonged in my opinion.

he had nearly the same season anyway

4.8 PPG less
.1 fewer assists
.9 fewer rebounds a game
free throws dipped by .010.

he also took 2 fewer shots a game...which is...about 4.8 pts.

Probably. He isn't gonna go grow, he isn't gonna turn into a muscle head. He isn't gonna be a drive/dunk guy. His game is mainly 3's. Regardless of how great of a shooter you are, its STILL a low percentage game.

2016 is probably as good as hes gonna get but he just doesn't have that mid range post up, athletic slash/dunking game.

Curry is actually really good from midrange and getting to the rim. He just does it differently than other great scorers before him.

You can't be an MVP caliber player and score more than 25 a game in the NBA if you are not a multidimensional scorer. He is the best 3 point shooter of all time, but his game is more than that.

That was a good season for him for sure. Got to think with Durant on the team it may take away from Curry's importance to the team.
