Funny thing is yesterday I heard Mike Pereira (former head of officiating) say it was legal but then admit the hit was before the ball got to Thomas (which makes it illegal). Since it was so close that you can't expect the refs to be able to make that call, therefore legal.....LOL

It's total BS (as usual)....it was a bad play and clearly illegal since it clearly (even a fraction of a second) happened before the ball got to Thomas. This play happens every game is is called alot. Infact the Patriots drive before this drive their TE (Hoomamwhatever) was called for barely touching a Bronco defender. This Welker play was much worse and blatent.....NFL wants all the rules for the offense-- defense gets nothing.

Except for that first TD drive where the Pats guy almost mugged the Bronco player in the endzone, holding both his arms with his back to the ball and no DPI was called.

yes because Wes Welker would be every teams top choice to purposely use as a battering ram......:L

The point is Welker was blatantly trying to throw a pick. It's one thing if he makes it look somewhat an accident he ran into the CB, but he wasn't fooling anyone.

I'm not certain that he had any responsibility to make it look accidental did he ? And based on your interpretation of game regulations, was Edelman's blatant pick play more convincing ?

It's a smart answer and brilliant one by Thurmond. Wouldn't be surprised if Sherman told the LOB to say something like this if questioned.

Thurmond doesn't care and neither does the LOB, they love hits like this and welcome it. What it does do is get media and OFFICIATING attention. Now officials might be watching for a hit like this and maybe flag it when in all honesty it shouldn't be flagged. Maybe they will let the LOB get away with a little more knowing the Broncos 'according to media - play dirty'.

Smart, tactful move by Thurmond. Just like Sherman's trash talking, you can get inside the opponents heads, as well as the officials and NFL org. That's exactly why the comment was made.

But it wasn't a penalty. The whole point is that it happens so close to the ball reaching the receiver that at live speed you can't differentiate, hence it can't be a penalty. The NFL says it's not a penalty because it's not a penalty.

I've not been one to make a big deal out of this play but this post is pure excrement. In slo mo, the ball is clearly....like, 4 feet from the reciever when Wes first makes contact. It's really not close to simultaneous.

I'm still waiting to read from any Broncos fan besides maybe Kwit, who's capable of copping to any critique of Manning or their team. You guys are delusional.

Brady sucked in this last game, his playoff performances recently have tanked and don't hold up to his earlier stats, the tuck rule was bullshit...Brady fumbled against the Raiders and should not have gotten to his first SB. Belichick's an arrogant bastard who shouldn't have pushed the limits on signal taping....the list goes on. See how easy that is?

Peyton's just not that great in cold, nasty, windy weather, he's had equally as talented teams as Brady but his playoff record historically doesn't add up. Even if he does win this SB he's still 2 for 3 to Brady's 3 for 5. I realize that these are difficult things for you all to accept but there's no need to fear reality.

That's the problem. It takes slo mo to be able to tell. Live speed, it's bang/bang. That's why it's not a penalty. I don't know what else to tell you, the NFL said it wasn't a penalty, it's not a penalty. :noidea:

The link you provided is still slow motion.

You simply can't tell at full speed. But don't take my word for it.

Pereira: Welker hit on Talib was a legal play | Comcast SportsNet - CSNNE.com

The second gif in that link STARTS with Welker already making contact and the ball clearly isn't to the receiver yet. Deny away all you'd like. The ball was, relative to what these refs call all the time, nowhere near the receiver

...and I disagree with Pereira on a regular basis. He justifies the ref's calls any chance he can get.

No the second gif starts with Welker not even in frame. Besides that, it's still slow motion and I've already acknowledged that yes, Welker hit Talib before the ball got there. Again, the reason it's legal is because at live speed you can't tell that. It's too close, hence not a penalty.

Disagree with Pereira all you want; personally, I think his opinion carries a lot more weight than yours, as does the opinion of the NFL who of course already came out and said it wasn't a penalty.

Seahawks should be the last to be talking about dirty hits. They are the most dirty players in the NFL.

They're not dirty, they're tough. Something your defense hasn't been in years. And the reason why they're going to take care of what the Pats couldn't.

The smallest guy on the field, with multiple (recent) concussions is going to make this hit deliberately?

Yeah, ok. :L
