Now with Hardy under our belt, this changes things in the draft. I could see them drafting Petty if he falls to around the 3rd round, and if he impresses after a private workout with team. If Petty is still there that is. May have to move up to the top of 3rd to get him likely. I do know that Broaddus loves him. Time to draft a rookie QB with promise to groom behind Romo for the next 2 years>??...or not? If Russell Wilson can step in and play well as a rookie, why not another rookie QB if called upon because of a Romo injury (God forbid). Just tired of these castoff Weedens of the world as our insurance policy and season lifeline. Maybe carry a 3rd QB? Thoughts?

“He was real solid,” Wilson said after the workout. “You know, he demonstrated he could make all the throws, which is necessary to play in the league. He had good touch. Every time you see him, he’s a little more fluid dropping back under center.”

SHHH, quiet Wade. Id like to see Bryce fall to the Cowboys at some point in the draft.

    Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
    Height: 6-2. Weight: 230.
    40 Time: 4.87.
    Projected Round (2015): 4-6.

3/14/15: WalterFootball.com knows that multiple NFL teams view Petty as a third-day prospect despite the hype from some draft pundits. He had a solid Combine performance.

The view of league contacts was justified by Petty's performance in 2014. His accuracy was inconsistent, and he missed a lot of wide-open receivers who any NFL quarterback has to connect with. To help himself, Petty finished the year well against Michigan State, including a number of accurate deep balls. Petty needed a strong week at the Senior Bowl, but that didn't happen. He was average and looks like a backup for the NFL rather than a developmental starter.

Petty completed 63 percent of his passes in 2014 for 3,855 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He had six rushing touchdowns. Petty needs to improve in his pocket passing and accuracy.

8/27/14: 2013 was an impressive debut season for Petty as Baylor's starting quarterback. The dual-threat quarterback could definitely improve as a pocket passer now that he has gained a year of experience. Petty completed 62 percent of his passes last year for 4,200 yards with 32 touchdowns and three interceptions. He ran for 339 yards and 14 touchdowns as well. Petty backed up Robert Griffin III and Nick Florence for three seasons.

Personal: Son of Todd and Dena Petty. Graduated in May of 2013 with a degree in health science studies.

7. Bryce Petty, Baylor

When Robert Griffin III came out of Baylor, I honestly thought he, and not Andrew Luck, was the best quarterback prospect I had ever seen (in approximately 10 years of evaluating draft prospects at the position). Griffin was NFL-ready for a passing offense—not the stupid pistol, run-first offense the Shanahans ran with him. But I digress.

Petty is not nearly as NFL-ready as Griffin was when leaving Waco. Petty is really just another guy. He has a good arm, but not the type that turns heads. He is smart, rarely makes bad decisions with the football and seems to have all the leadership and character traits teams look for in a signal-caller.

But again, he’s just another guy. He doesn’t stand out in any one category. Could he develop? Sure.

Will he? Who knows, but there’s little reason to expect him to become a great NFL quarterback. There’s just as much evidence to suggest he’s a career backup, if that.

Not sure what a guy writing for AOL knows (Osgood)

Zierlein's bottom line: NFL evaluators felt like Petty's senior season was disappointing, but those same evaluators love his size, leadership and intangibles. He needs a year or two of practice time and camp work to learn how to get through his progressions, but has the intelligence to do that. Petty must have a structured offense that won't ask him to make plays outside of the pocket.

I like Petty for the Cowboys, because they wouldn't ask him to play for 2-3 years. He is considered somewhat of a system kid coming out of Baylor, but I think in time, he could turn out real similar to the QB the Cowboys have right now, which is a heck of a compliment

Scott Linehan will be at the private workout. Bryce has about 5 private workouts scheduled with 5 different NFL teams. I like the kid's potential. Don't see why they must wait until Romo is damn near 40 years old before they decide to groom somebody behind him from the draft. Will they even been in a position to draft an elite QB prospect when that time does come??

wouldn't you just know iT
I want no part of Petty unless it's round 5.
Good kid but IMO, no real NFL future.

I'm kind of with you on this. If you want to throw a flyer on him in the 5th sure, anything more than that and I think it's a waste. He'll be a competent backup but that's about it. I'd rather wait until next year when we have less of a need to draft D/RB and take a higher ceiling guy in the first 3 rounds.
