VP Jon Runyan with some words

"There were no mitigating circumstances on this play," Runyan said in his letter to Burfict. "Your contact was unnecessary, flagrant and should have been avoided. For your actions, you were penalized and disqualified from the game.

"Following each of your previous rule violations, you were warned by me and each of the jointly-appointed appeal officers that future violations would result in escalated accountability measures. However, you have continued to flagrantly abuse rules designated to protect yourself and your opponents from unnecessary risk.

"Your extensive history of rules violations is factored into this decision regarding accountability measures."

Suspensions won't work on a guy who has no disregard for the rules. Ban him.

Remember on MNF in 2017 when Jon Gruden couldn't stop slurping him then had a meltdown when JuJu blindsided him?

Not a fan of that at all of Burfict.....but not a fan of this call either.

The way Doyle fell and then tried to get back up there was little other way for Burfict to hit other than the way he did. Of course he could have lead a little less with his head.....but he was going to ring Doyle's bell no matter what.

Honestly if the NFL are going to call these, they are going to have to change their rules to the college style rule where knee down, whether contact or not, kills the play.

These rules puts the defense too often in an unfair position. If they play all out like they should, they get a penalty....if they let up, they risk the offensive player getting up and gaining more yards.

A similar no win situation for the defense thing happened in last night's Cowboys game. Dak was trying to juke a defender and when he realized it wasnt going to work, he went into a slide. Of course the defender hit him and was flagged 15 yards. That cant be called a penalty IMO. Either a QB gives himself up....or he doesn't. If he is sitting there juking around and trying to gain yards and only goes down at the very last possible second, it shouldn't be a penalty.

And there have been a couple of times this year where offensive players act like they are about to run out of bounce to get defenders to start to slow up.....and then sprinted for another 5 yards.

Offensive players need to be held in account for their actions too IMO. The NFL needs some new rules that dont involve flags to take care of these situations.

I agree with you on the Dak play. Especially since Bridgewater didn't receive the same treatment.

Burficts hit was much different. He lead with his helmet intentionally as he has throughout his career while being disciplined.

Long overdue.
But the right thing to do.

maybe after this season.
Not exactly banned, but he is long in the tooth & was only playing on a 1 year contract. he may not get another opportunity from a team next year.

XFL is his next stop.
