But who is to say Vokoun takes that kind of a discount to play for us, especially after our drastic changes?

No one could have seen this coming. So you are saying if we decided not to target Bryz, we wait for Vokoun, he decides to take a paycut to play for the caps. In the mean time Bryz gets snatched up. So now we are back to where we started, no goalie like always.

(though....we would have a ton of money to sign Stamkos hehe)

he shoulda waited until FA to sign/pick a goalie.. trading for one gives the player all the negotiating power, and bryz already said he was going to be focused on the money..

who would we have been bidding against? seriously. answer that question for me. the caps signed him because he was cheap, they didnt need him.. he clearly wanted to play for a contender, and what other contender needed a goalie? the bruins, canucks, sabres, caps, kings, rangers, devils, pens, blackhawks, sharks, predators, wings, habs, bolts (resigned roloson prior to FA), and blues all have goalies.. can you name a team that's not listed above that has a better shot at winning the cup than the flyers?

both vokoun and bryz would've been available without bidding.. maybe bryz goes for money since he said he was going to, and that russia was even an option.. so why not wait it out? i see no reason they couldn't have waited

did he not learn from last year? nabakov goes unsigned, ellis, nitty, biron, and mason all go for significantly less (% wise) that leighton, who is an inferior goalie according to everyone..

i like the players homer brings in, but he doesn't understand the market for players at all.. its that simple..

You remember all that market inflation I've been talking about?

Yeah, that didn't apply to this deal...

and if the flyers wait to sign a goalie, and get vokoun for even 2.5

dont sign jagr at 3.3
dont sign talbot at 1.8
dont sign lilja at .750

they have 8.5 million and can take a shot at stamkos without gutting the whole team

So now the question remains as to when Semin will be headed to the Isles, if anyone is going with him, and who/what is coming back in return. :)

Avs, Florida, Caps. If just one of those 2 gets snatched up, a massive bidding war begins. And who says we are a solid contender. Our team is a total crapshoot this year. We can be great or we can be terrible. Why would Vokoun risk his career and potential big payday playing with such a wildcard?

Of course in hindsight its obvious we should have waited, but like I said, how much shit would Homer have gotten if there were two premium goalies on the market and we end up with none of them...again.

We made the right move. Just be happy with what we have.

Good for Vokoun. It's all about winning the Cup for him. The only positive for the rest of the league is the Caps still have Boudreau. I have faith that some team will knock the Capitals out of the playoffs simply because their coach will out coach Boudreau. Then again with that roster it might not matter. Washington on paper is that good.
