Spaghetti Works is closed in Lincoln, but they still have a couple in Omaha. Can't believe I didn't think of Runza or Valentino's

Best place to go while you're in Lincoln is Omaha.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I appreciate good food as much as the next guy, but am not real picky. What I'd like to visit is bars and restaurants that are "staples" of the community, and would hopefully have some historic Cornhusker memorabilia. I'm in my 50's now, and remember the Nebraska/Oklahoma rivalries from the 70's.

Good luck with your upcoming season, I truly hope you can get back to national contenders! You're one of the "true bloods" of college football!

Y'all don't want to give him the taste of Nebraska with the normal shit? Mistys valentinos and runzas. Lol

This one is the truth.

Misty's is the place to be on the night before the game. You should go to Misty's.

Valentino's is a pizza chain.

Runza's is mostly a Nebraska thing, you have to at least try one. If you are not Polish, Russian, German, Hungarian, you probably won't get it. But my family and I ALWAYS go to a Runza when we go back. Runza is a chain and I think they server burgers.

My advice: Go down to the Haymarket, close your eyes spin around and go in the direction of that restaurant.

For sit downs: Flatwater is good, Leadbelly is good, Bread and Cup is good, Lazlo's, Vincenzo's, Yia Yia's (Pizza), Thai Garden, Tico's (mexican). Subs/sandwiches: Bisonwitches, Doozy's, and almost every imaginable chain shop. Everyone says watering hole for wings, but that place sucks and is horribly overrated.

Whole bunch of new sushi bars, and there's a great Indian restaurant (The Oven). Ali Baba's has bomb Gyros. Good drunk food.

These are just a few. A lot more to choose from.

All of this is within walking distance. Sports bars galore, lots of old mixed with new, lots of local mixed with commercial. The world's your Oyster.

If ya like a good stogie with your drink, Jake's Cigar Bar is the only place in town where you can do it.

If you go to Omaha, the Henry Doorly Zoo is a world class zoo. You can go to Rosenblatt Baseball stadium, home of the college world series, right across the street from the zoo.

The Durham Museum, which used to be the Western Heritage Museum, was a nice surprise for us when we visited it.

Omaha had a rich guy by the name of Byron Reed. He collected a LOT of interesting stuff. When he died, he left it all to the City of Omaha.

Byron Reed Collection - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At one time, the coin collection was housed in the Omaha Public Library and in the 1960s or 1970s the crooks tried to steal it all. No one in the City of Omaha had any idea that the coin collection contained some very rare coins, that are now worth big bucks Butkus. After the failed crime, the City of Omaha had the coin collection appraised and about shit their bricks and then promptly removed it from the Library.

But the other cool stuff was he had letters from the President of the United State to Napoleon Bonaparte, talk about flowery language. Who knew these things still existed. He also had the General Ledger to George Washington's Whiskey Distillery(one of a kind). I was blown away by the weird things that he had, but they were really cool to see.

there is also stuff about trains since it is in the old Union Station Train Depot.

Rosenblatt isn't really there anymore. Just home plate and the foul poles.

I really appreciate your input. Let's get back to the historical side for a minute. The stadium for sure. Is there anything else I need to see regarding the history of Nebraska Football?

It's mostly all at the stadium. In the lobby area, they have the NC trophies as well as a lot of the Orange Bowl and other bowl trophies. It's a pretty cool setup. The Heisman Room is just off of the lobby as well, and there's a video that goes along with it that's pretty cool. I'd recommend watching both the Heisman video and the Gameday video in the Heisman room. Also definitely walk around the outside of the stadium and see the whole thing.

I travel all over the country, and world, for that matter, with my job. I work on military helicopters, and will be working at the airport for the National Guard. I'm a huge college football fan, and history buff. With that said, Nebraska has a storied program, and I look forward to visiting Lincoln for the first time.

It's definitely cool to see if you're a football fan. There's a lot of history there. Make sure you show up wearing your Bama gear, and you'll get the famous visiting fan treatment from everybody.
