In comparison to the rankings of the other recruiting services and in-state media outlets, 247 should be terribly embarrassed.

Just curious...as the National College Football Recruiting Director for 247Sports, does J C Shurburtt have to sign off on stuff like that before it gets released?

Ekanem is VERY impressive with regards to how he carries himself/speaks in interviews. i really like the guy and hope that he recovers well from his torn acl. i havent watched as much of caleb, but im excited for him as well

perfect fit for the whip position imo

This article indicates that he was either sidelined or at least hobbled for a couple games also, so i assume that # could have been higher.

The key skill for the Whip position is being a sure tackler. I played in a D that had a similar spot but we called him the Jackbacker. You funnel a ton of plays to that spot, and they guy ends up with a lot of one on one breakdowns. if he can tackle (Cody Grimm, James Anderson, Cam Martin) you can be a killer.

All the talk about guys who could play this coming year...McKinnon may be one of them. he is an excellent tackler. he uses his hands and arms the way he should. He drops his ass on contact to pull the player down. JGW got better last year but is inconsistent. Tweedy has the speed and tackling ability but gets swallowed up a lot. Dew has not emerged at all yet. McKinnon could win that spot.

VTFF and I are so on the same page fight now. Were you a linebacker? Ha ha? I was, and played some safety. I HATE when I see a guy try and shoulder tackle. Wrap the guy, drop your ass and let your weight pull the ball carrier down.

McKinnon has already graduated.

No but I was a strong safety. So slightly but not really haha. Too heavy to be a DB and too light to be a LB.

I played Will Linebacker in HS (db size but lb speed) and was A very undersized 2 year starter. The only way you can have success at LB is to have good tackling, and good instincts. Oh yeah.. And be tough as hell...There are so many college players that have poor tackling skills IMO ( especially DBS).they just hit them. Good RB and even WR just bounce and get an extra 5 or 10... Hate seeing that!

i agree -- tackling skills go by the way side .. it makes me cringe to see it (even worse, in the nfl) .. watching some db's get beat so easily makes me cringe too. cb is a TOUGH position to play but you can tell from a receiver's eyes when the ball is in the air and thrown to them. quick timing routes are an exception...a great cover corner with great tackling skills are hard to come by. good tackling may have come so naturally for us vtsparks .. because we are so damned short and low to the ground as it was .. low center of gravity = strong base .. but even when we rarely got run over, wasn't a whole lot of bouncing off and running 5-10 more .. those big bastards came down with..

247 will likely continue to go down that biased route unless someone signs up to support a VT page.

They're in the bag for UVA, so we should think of them no more.
