I'm not talking about talent... as much as developing said talent. We're very much improved at OL recruiting from our pre-2006 years. Still awaiting signs of improvement however.

Yep..I think so/agree. We have some solid OL on the roster right now. IMO if Newsome cant do anything with these guys, there is absolutely no hope. I wont mention the obvious ones, but looking at Shuman, Wang, Miller (already has a good shot at the league IMO), Goins, Contie, Benedict etc. CN probably has the most talented bunch since he has been there. If he doesnt get it done in a couple/3 years..he will be forced out by the boosters.

VT never offered, the scouting services just assumed we offered. LOL

Hmm... well that's what I was going with for UGA's offer too. Maybe they never offered either. (I'm pretty sure they did though)

not sure what to think of this article...saw it, so i posted it....Skyler Mornhinweg is a Penn St. QB commit that "is likely" to be visiting Blacksburg next week, hes visiting the Univ. of Florida this weekend....Mornhinweg has offers from Penn st., Alabama, Illinois, Stanford and Tennessee ...he's 6'3" ,218, runs a 4.68-40 and listed as a dual-threat QB

Skyler Mornhinweg visiting the University of Florida; Va. Tech could be next | The O'Zone | 01/21/2012

again...not sure if I believe it..his film looks good

That's a good catch my friend. That's completely new to me.

This is very interesting. I saw people on twitter saying that this happened after he was told by the current staff that he would play safety... it seems like if he's visiting 2 schools instead of just one, he's already made up his mind to de-commit from Penn St. as long as 1 of the other schools are viable options.

I guess we'll find out after he gets back from Gainesville if he's going to visit the 'burg!

That is interesting. I thought the last name sounded familiar, he is Marty Mornhinweg's (OC of the Eagles) son. Wonder if we could get a package deal with both of them after the Eagles staff gets cut loose after next year. :hurt:

Mornhinweg originally committed to Stanford as a freshman in high school (2009) but moved to PSU when Harbaugh jumped to the League. His film is VERY good...even makes accurate throws downfield off his back foot under pressure.

He was definitely recruited to play QB by Stanford, PSU, Bama, Tenn, and Illinois. The "he's going to have to play safety" Twitter-rumor is the usual fan fall-back position when a recruit decides to drop his verbal and look elsewhere.

That would be nice to get him in the system, red shirt and then get some time under LT to learn.

I'm not sure what you guys are wanting to see in terms of OL improvement but here's a couple of solid indicators:

Ranking for sacks allowed according to the NCAA:
-----------------------------------------------
2011: 22nd
2010: 86th
2009: 87th
2008: 111th
2007: 115th

Certainly looks like improvement from a pass-blocking perspective, doesn't it?

Ranking for total offense according to the NCAA:
-----------------------------------------------
2011: 35th
2010: 41st
2009: 50th
2008: 103rd
2007: 100th

Looks like an improvement from a total offense perspective, too.

Some of that is the transition from Glennon to Tyrod and the progression of Tyrod as a nervous freshman doing dumb stuff in the pocket to a stud QB and then LT's faster delivery style? I agree out OL pass blocked very well the season and that might have to do with they knew LT would stay in the pocket so they could do their normal OL thing...

What do we know about this kid besides having good hands and speed? How does someone of this caliber become a sleeper?....late bloomer?

Looks like he was attending Duluth High in Duluth, GA, as a junior before transferring to MLKJr High in Lithonia, GA, for his senior year. Duluth was 4-6 during Stanford's junior year so I doubt many coaches were checking him out. I bet the people who may have been watching him lost track of him when he transferred.
