Damn, I missed CS again. Had to hit the gym, eat and then got sucked into that new show "The River". It isn't terrible so far. Will have to see more to make a call on it. Seems like most new TV shows lately blow donkey balls.
So what happens if the Rams keep their place in the draft and take Kalil?
If that happens I think Vikes should take Blackmon. Hard to pass him up if he's on the board.
A month ago that would have been a very early pick for him, he was thought to go about 11 or so.
I still say get a DB in free agency and draft another later, maybe 2nd pick.
If Kalil is gone I like Blackmon. IMO.
I read somewhere that the Rams had drafted a left tackle not so long ago (for a hefty contract also). Im 90% sure they will either trade the pick to someone that wants a QB or take Blackmon. Either way, Im thinking Kaili is as good as here.
I read the same thing Met, '09 they drafted him 1st round. But they're not happy with him.
I'm hoping they take Blackmon whether they keep the pick or trade down. Vikes getting Kalil is what I've wanted, just wanted to see what others thought Vikes would do if Kalil is gone when they pick.
Truth be told, I wouldnt be surprised to see them trade down. Rams got a hell of a payroll because of all them top 5 picks theyve had. How many more can they take? lol
Matt Kalil, OT - The Rams will take Kalil if they keep this selection. I've seen Blackmon mocked here, but Kalil is the no-brainer pick.
St. Louis has way too much invested in Sam Bradford to have him suffer David Carr syndrome. The offensive line is a mess, as concussion-prone right tackle Jason Smith stinks and left tackle Rodger Saffold is too overmatched to be stationed on the blind side. With general manager Billy Devaney gone, the Rams can part ways with Smith if they wish. He's been an enormous bust.
Also, Kalil is a much better prospect than Blackmon. It's not even close. He's the best left tackle prospect since Joe Thomas, and aside from Andrew Luck, he's the top player in this class.
This really is as much of a no-brainer as Andrew Luck to the Colts. If Matt Kalil is on the board, the Vikings won't spend two minutes handing in their draft card. Of course, I won't be happy about this because I won't have enough time to write stupid things in my live draft blog.
Kalil is the best non-quarterback in this class, and Minnesota has a major need at left tackle, where the pedestrian Charlie Johnson has sucked all year. The Vikings absolutely need to make sure Christian Ponder is well protected.
*** OTHER 2012 NFL DRAFT POSSIBILITIES: ***
1. Justin Blackmon, WR - In the event that the Rams can't trade their pick and Matt Kalil is not available, I believe the Vikings would take Justin Blackmon. Of course, they could move this selection themselves...
2. Riley Reiff, OT - Thanks to perhaps all of the gamma rays he's been in contact with, the Sun Tan Man slotted Riley Reiff to the Vikings in his recent mock draft, so I suppose I should list this as a possibility. After all, Minnesota might be stupid, and could pass on a superior talent, instead opting to reach for a need.
Totally agree AIP, but the simple fact is a lot of top picks before there was a rookie cap. Hell, didnt Bradford get 100 mil? They simply cant afford to keep picking that high. I honestly see them trading down, probably to Miami.
I agree the Rams SHOULD take Kalil, hard to pass up someone like that.
However I disagree with this guys take on Blackmon. What I hear is this kid is the closest thing to Calvin Johnson since...well, Calvin Johnson.
Riley Reiff, has been moving up the list it will be interesting to see what happens after the combine. Personally I would put a rumor out that we would be taking R G3 and see what the Browns would give us.
Did you hear about that giant fan that isn't good-looking but has a lot of money. He bet $1000 the Giants would score first on a safety WTF. $50,000
I would have a hard time betting there would be a safety in the game.
This is what they think for the next three rounds.
2. Minnesota Vikings: Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis
The Vikings really could use a run-stuffing interior presence. Pat Williams was missed last year.
3.Minnesota Vikings: Chase Minnifield, CB/KR, Virginia
Minnesota's secondary is an absolute mess right now. The front office has to find some cornerback help in free agency or early in the 2012 NFL Draft.
4. Minnesota Vikings: Chris Polk, RB, Washington
The Vikings may look to bring in some depth behind Toby Gerhart with Adrian Peterson likely out for the first two months or so.
