Anyone else afraid we're adding too many guards? I know skilled big men are really hard to find but we really need some depth down there.

You get what you can get. Everybody wants the skilled big men.

Wouldn't this just bring us to 4 scholarship guards? Both in 2012-13 (when Smith has to sit out) and 2013-14 (when Green will have graduated). That's not a lot. Do we need to add more big men? Absolutely. But it's not as if we don't need guards as well.

Malcolm Delaney is going play on the Detroit Pistons summer league team.
Malcolm Delaney a late addition to Pistons summer league roster PistonPowered

Sounds like he won't make the roster but maybe some other team will notice him if he plays well enough. I always felt he had the talent level to play in the NBA but his lack of guard skills kept him out of it. He could get his own shot just fine, but didn't quite create enough for others for him to be effective in the NBA. Maybe some seasoning in France has helped him out.

Deron Washington led the Utah Jazz in points today in their summer league game against the Pistons. He came off the bench and brought them back into the game almost singlehandedly while scoring 13 points in less than 10 minutes of play.

Not a bad showing! Malcolm didn't see the floor today, sadly.

Yeah kind of sad he was signed to complete the roster and play bench warmer.

I'm thinking he didn't play today because he was such a late addition. I would expect him to see the floor a bit once he gets acclimated to everything.

Maybe one of our guys can make a roster this year. Dowdell made the Suns in the 2010/2011 season but they didn't bring him back last season (surprising because he played well for them)

Methinks Delaney won't be making the Pistons or any other roster. I've been tracking the box scores of the summer league games and he's only managed to play in one game. He was 0-2 with 5 pts, all FTs. I don't think he had any assists or rebounds.

Deron Washington has been much better since he had that one good game.

Bummer

Virginia Tech G Robert Brown undergoes surgery for fractured foot - Hokies Journal - The Washington Post

Looks like Robert Brown is having surgery on his foot but won't miss any playing time. We really need this guy to step up if we want a good season. He showed a lot of promise last year. He was amazing against Austin Rivers in that last game.

ugh. That is not good news at all. It says this is the same injury that Raines had that later came back up and he had to be shut down for the year. We can't afford anything like that here...
