I don't either. In fact, I'm not sure a couple of those in the top 10 really have a chance to make it.
Yeah, ND and Iowa definitely not. I don't think Florida and PSU either, but they could get fortunate.

At this point in time, I think the teams with a legit chance at the CFP next season are:
OSU
Clemson
Oregon
Alabama
Florida
Oklahoma (gross)
ND (if they can beat Clemson)

That's about it right now.

Not a dig at Florida, they're going to be good, but assuming wins over UGA, LSU, and even at Tennessee are a bit premature. You're riding a 3-game losing streak to UGA, and it's not like they're losing everything, so that's far from a guaranteed W.
I agree. I suppose I'm not communicating well. I'm not making assumption that Florida wins them all. I know they usually have a loss through a regular season.

But I expect them to win.

This past season, I had no such expectations.

With the starters we're losing, not sure why we'd even be top 25 at this point tbh. Must be a KF consistency/respect thing.
Offense should be our best since 2002 ( if Petras is good ). D is less certain but when was the last bad Iowa defense?

Failed season if they don't win 11 games but we are talking about Dan "Big Game" Mullen here

You sure like typing that shit. Did you give Mullen the name because as OC at UF he put 41 points on the hapless nutz?

Still, we finished this season ranked 15th. We're losing our starting QB and 40% of our OL. The D loses 5 starters- including All-American Epenesa.

You can't tell me that any respected publication is going to take in those losses and move us UP 5 spots? I'm not buying it. Too much to be proven for a top 25 position imo.

Hell, damn near the entire team is coming back.

Cal’s defense is really stout, but it’ll probably all depend on Garbers and his health. Dude is an absolute baller but his back up Modster might be the worst back up I’ve ever seen and that’s saying something. I believe they went 8-0 in games Garbers started and finished and 0-5 in games he didn’t.

Youre talking final poll. This thread is pre-season for 2020. Minnesota is unranked. Why have they been omitted?
He's talking the preseason poll hence his post. UM got screwed.

LSU will go back to normal. 8-9 win season. It was just a magical year that a team might never replicate.

Clemson is playing in the ACC...even if they lose guys. Reload and play their shit schedule. At worst - 1 loss for them but probably another undefeated year.
They actually have a test this year though: Notre Dame. ND does lose their entire secondary as well as QB and RB though. Rest of non-conference is Akron, The Citadel and South Carolina as well. They won't play one pre-season ranked team on their ACC schedule.

Book is coming back. And losing our RB isn't a big deal because he wasn't that good to begin with.

So Cal gets in for beating a shitty Illinois team, but Minnesota that destroyed Illinois and beat Auburn in their bowl gets left out? Are they losing every significant player?

No, they are not. The vast majority of the offense was made up of Sophmores. The Gophers will be scoring points like mfs on people until 2021, at least.

Getting Book back was huge. Before that, ND didn't belong in Top 10. Although everyone else is pointing at Clemson as the big game for you, I think the game against Wisconsin in Lambeau is bigger. If you lose that, CFP is out of the question. I think if you win and lose to Clemson, you still have a shot.

I think it's reversed. Especially in a down ACC. Beating Clemson may eliminate the ACC altogether, assuming Clemson wins the ACC. Plus I think there's a better chance Wisconsin loses multiple games next year than Clemson.

But if you lose to an unbeaten Clemson team, you could still make the CFP. If you lost to a Wisconsin team that loses multiple games, it might not be that great in the eyes of the committee.

Yeah in terms of just thinking about the B1G, this list is weird. No Minnesota, but NC, ISU, UT, etc... Michigan is 12th? Why, so they can underperform again?

Why is Wisconsin 18th and Iowa is 10th? Am I missing something there? Why is Auburn 13th? - 4 losses last year, 5 the year before, 4 before that, 5 before that, 6 before that... I mean come on man.

What the fuck you tryin to pull?

I'm pleased the Gophers are not ranked pre-season, That is the best gift ESPN or whoever could have given them!!!

It would have been no different than Oregon this year had they not lost to Arizona State.

Looking through the committees' lenses I think losing to a 2/3 loss Wisconsin, and beating a 1 loss Clemson(which is towards the end of the year), is better than beating a 3/4 loss Wisconsin and losing to an undefeated Clemson. At that point there are two teams eliminated (Wisconsin and Clemson) as opposed to just 1(Wisconsin).

With everything they're losing, I don't know how you can put Clemson #1. They're potentially going to lose every key piece on both sides of the ball outside of Lawrence and Ross, including replacing 4/5 starting O-linemen.

Also, LSU is going to have a really, really hard time replicating anything close to the offensive success of 2019. Losing Burrow was bad enough, but now losing Brady could be devastating. They also lose a ton on defense.

Because elite COACHING.

Per 247, since he became HC in 2009, not one of Dabo's '4 year average' recruiting rankings have ever been Top 10.

Adding the 2020 team will give Clemson a 4 year average of 8th, but only because their 2020 class is #1. The real question is how many of the 2020 class see playing time as true freshman?

The 3 year averages of Clemson's Sophs, Jr's, and Sr's is 11th.
