I actually want Stinespring back. He's a proven recruiter and he couldn't possibly screw things up at TE coach. OL? Really would prefer someone else. I don't think VT has to settle for him at OL or a no-name OC or any no-name position coach for that matter. If they do they might as well destroy the NC trophy case right then

Unless Frank insisted to keep Stiney on staff and it is scaring away quality OC candidates.

They need to make promises not to be involved in the offense. What kind of input is Stinespring going to have? I can see him recommending the WR screen and running exclusively inside the 20s

This is very true.

I understand Steinspring has some longstanding relationships built in VA, but being the 'best recruiter' at VT doesn't exactly mean much with the crack staff we have had in place. We still miss on a ton of VA talent. I don't think we should be sticking our necks out that far for him if it means losing a quality coordinator, or proven recruiter.

While Stiney brings some good things to the table, a quality OC is worth some concessions. Like I said, it's go time. Make something good happen. Keep Stiney if you can, but get the best OC you can get, and let him run things.

The Hamilton news would not shock me if it is true.

Stanford is a top 5-10 program going into next year, who knows if it was anything more of a powerplay to get some more $$ out of Stanford??? Coaches do this all the time. Maybe he genuinely just wasn't that interested for whatever reason ($$$, How much control, etc.). I will be interested to see who the new OC ends up being. It may take days or even weeks before this issue is resolved. I haven't heard of anyone else even being interviewed. As long as it is a good hire and not some run-of-the-mill D1AA coach...

I would've loved Pep, but there are other coaches that fit well. My biggest fear was he would only be around for 1 or 2 years then bolt for the NFL. I'm sure frank was worried about that too. It may have come down to money, it may not. But I'm sure that was a factor.

Right now I just hope we don't settle for ODU's OC.

FWIW, I don't think Pep said "no" to Frank. I think Frank thought it wasn't the right fit after meeting with him.

Frank Beamer needs to just live in the moment and not worry about 3 years from now.

I really hope this is not true because I guarantee the next guy on the list is going to look less impressive on paper at least. What if Beamer is purposefully rejecting every candidate just so he can keep his favorite buddy in the whole world Stinespring as OC? If a big name is not landed it's because Beamer shot down or ignored all the quality candidates or Weaver was too cheap. If that happens I hope a bunch of big donors bail on the program or call for Beamer's head. Enough is enough of this shit I've been watching on the offensive side.

Also if Beamer is even halfway dedicated to the program this search should've started mid-season. They better have had people selected and contacted A LONG DAMN TIME AGO or this program is run like SHIT. You don't wait until the last minute for stuff this big

Just saw these comments on the free TSL board

"It would not surprise me if Frank is looking for a temporary OC to tutor Stinespring so that in 2-3 years when the OC moves on, we can go right back to BS"

"Didn't we just do that w "Co-OC" O'Cain?"

"That's like Helen Keller teaching herself..."

It's funny even though there's a possibility that it's true. But if that is the reality it'll be best just to laugh and find other things to do during football season until Beamer is fired or retires
