That called high strike three on Garcia in the 9th wasn’t even close. Terrible ump.

Total Quality Starts in 2022

Andrew Heaney -- 2
Glenn Otto --7
Dane Dunning -- 10

In Heaney's last 8 starts last year he put up an ERA of 4.91 and allowed an OPS of .840. He struck out a ton, but gave up 12 HR in 36.2 innings.

Tonight, he was the Andrew Heaney of old, plus the struggles toward the end of last year as you mentioned.
Let Dunning be the #5 SP.
Dunning seems to be taking a big step forward and could end up being a guy with a 3.75 ERA IMO.

Dunning and Ragans pitched well in ST until they had Ragans come out of the pen. Eventually they will have to switch Heaney for one of those two.

Zak Kent went 3 shutout innings in his first start tonight, striking out 3.

Last year he finished up with a 1.58 ERA in his last 6 starts.

Game tomorrow is important from a psychological perspective.

4-2 looks great, 3-3 looks like shit

going from a sweep to getting swept is the ultimate buzzkill. I hope degrom is ready to go.

I am interested in his swing and miss so if he is limited to 5 innings on a regular basis maybe Dunning should start and he can be a closer.
Still Bochy has done well with the pen the last 4 games

Heany is always injured it seems like and he's only had roughly 700 innings in 8 years maybe switching him to relief would be better for him???

I did not watch Heaney with LAD but sure did with Halos but heard he had a lot of swing and miss. As a Halo I was 100% unimpressed

His swing and miss had to be deception because he surely was not going to overpower batters So Given his experience, in theory I thought he could close. He surely showed no command but had some pretty good sweeping breaking balls. You hate to pay a guy to come on for a mop up role

Going to be tough for Bochy to backtrack but Dunning seems to be much more capable and durable. He even mentioned keeping his assortment of pitches. He thinks he will be back starting at some point

He looks better since he got his hip fixed has more drive off the mound. Truthfully I didn't see much sense in the Heany signing but they didn't know how Dunning was going to respond to his surgery or if Otto was going to progress so better safe than sorry I guess. (You also have to wonder if they knew about Odorizi arm issues too). The good thing about Heany is the team can buy out the second year of the contract if he proves to be a flop. But it's only one week into the season and the first 40 games or so can be misleading...

Well they got Odorizzi on the cheap so it had to be known me thinks.
I had thought that Dunning was more starter material than reliever. Otto stuff jumps up in relief.
Yeah don’t want to knee jerk but as a manager the leash for a little shorter for AH next start

Good point re back up plans

I think he'll end up staying a starter cause I don't think it will take long before he's called upon to fill in for an injured starter...

I thought either Dunning or Otto was a better option than Heaney when they signed him. I also thought that it wouldn't take Ragans but maybe a half of a season to be as good as Heaney. It just did not make sense to me when they signed him. Maybe he improves and proves me wrong, hopefully.

Semien needs to pick it up. BA .227. That is not adequate for lead off. Yes he will likely improve but until he does the pressure is on #2 and #3 to get on base.
