Here is my theory. All these guys attend the NHL's School for the Blind. On graduation they get a striped jersey and a whistle or a mask and chest protector. That being said, Angel Hernandez graduated at the top of his class. Not only is he bad but it seems he has never seen an MLB game in his life. Unfortuanately, this is a unionized profession so no way can a complete incompitant be fired. Electronic pitch calling cannot get here soon enough. The die hards say it will affect the purity of the game. This years rule changes show that to be not true. The pitch clock and the single time out allowed should have been adopted years ago.

during the cubs game las night the ump was awful calling strikes for the giants,if i were the giants manager i would have at least protested but they just let it go numerous times.i,m a cub fan but the umps were awful calling balls and strikes for sf.

If the MLB does what I think they are planning to do, they will implement robo-umps next season. They will have the umpires call balls and strikes and give managers a challenge to a questionable call. If they are correct in their challenge, they will get more of them.

I also think they should grade umpires on their "correctness". Those who score less than 97% correct should have to go through more training.

It is time MLB stepped up and made sure that the paying public gets what they are actually paying for. In the case of Angel Henandez we clearly have a little league umpire umpiring at major league level. No matter whether the sport is played on the diamond, the ice, the court or the field, at no time should the outcome of the game be entirely in the hands of the officials. In fact we should not even expect to see the officials. We know they are there but we came to see the teams play their best and deliver the game we expected to see. Whether it is due to incompetance or prejudice, somebody like Angel cannot be allowed to continue to influence the outcome of the game as he does.

Unions are good for some things.....


.....but the protecting of incompetent employees who shouldnt still have their job is one of the major reasons that most people have negative feelings about them.
