Yea, you guys are right, did read about the 30 team votes necessary.

Wonder what Bettman is thinking this entire time?

Back to Kovy, this situation is bigger than just the Devils. This will affect the entire NHL.
Kovy is not the first one to express his desire to play in Russia.
The next time a GM tries to sign a Russian star, this will be in back of his mind.

What I hope happens is the NHL together does something to either penalize these kinds of actions, or comes to an agreement with the KHL to prevent this.

What is to stop Kovalchuk from collecting 20 million a year for 4 years and then saying I want to go back to playing in the NHL? The rules should prevent that.

This whole mess will be felt by the entire league.

Also, I read a guy like Radulov makes 9 million a year. Take out the escrow and taxes, and these guys collect a lot more than players in the NHL. Don't be surprised if we start seeing more players follow Kovy to Russia.

Yea, like I mentioned earlier, I don't see much more Russians in the NHL. Imagine if this happened to a team without a safely established GM. This kind of situation would get a new GM fired on the spot.

Well heres the thing why didnt the devils fight this? Is beek in money trouble? How we just added to payroll. He also has to realize we aint getting 90% sth renewals next year.

So yeah losing kovy saves him 77 million but its costing him in attendance gear concession and probably playoff money. So hoe much is he really saving?

Also told my dad this today players like kovy on that talent level will command that type of contract. So if we want another "star" its going to cost 50+ million. And worst of all the cap hit will be way higher then 6.6

So short and long term I don't see much positives

I doubt it. Kovy wouldn't have played in Russia and had the calling, plus there wouldn't have been as large of escrow payment, which it seems Kovy was not happy about.

yeah i dont think he would've left either. but really though he really thought the players getting 57% of revenue was fair? hes really that upset about 7%? i dont see sid or malkin or ovie upset over it
