Doughty holdout talk: Harbinger of doom or scare tactic? - Puck Daddy - NHLBlog - Yahoo! Sports

"This year we were up in Toronto for the scouting combine and Dean had some meetings with Newport Sports (Doughty's agents)," Ferreira said. "He came back and they were discussing what went on, and I just looked at him and said, 'Dean, they don't want to make a deal. They're not ready to make a deal.'

"That's gonna be a tough one. I would not be surprised if he was a holdout. I went through it with Paul Kariya, and Dean's been through it."

I thought holdouts were specifically banned in all circumstances under the new cba?

he's an RFA, so if he still doesn't have a contract in Sept/Oct, he won't be playing.
not the same as the Comrie trick of holding out to renegotiate a current and active contract.

I doubty this will end well.

I know he wan money, but come on...there is so much potential in that LA lineup and he is the anchor of that team and it's future. Just sign and get it over over with Drew.

That's what I thought, but when I saw holdout I thought renegotiation. Thanks for the clarification.

If Chuck had won the vote on August 1st I think the Isles would certainly kick the tires on Doughty & Weber/Suter. Now since the Isles really aren't that far from the cap floor I don't think so.

What do you think it would take from your team to acquire Doughty? Would he be worth it?

I'm too lazy to look it up but in the next year or 2 are the Kings going to be a salary cap mess? They have a few key pieces that will need to go. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

not really. they have all their pieces (except Doughty) locked up for the next little while.
Penner ($4.25m) comes off the books after next year, and since Smyth is gone, he's really their only bad contract. Stoll is a bit pricy at $3.6m too, but he's UFA after next as well.

That's ridiculous. Lombardi isn't stupid. However, if he recommends giving Doughty that kind of contract it will be a stupid decision.

I was saying that is what Doughty wants (kind of tongue in cheek).
Rumor is he wants to be the highest paid King. Kopitar has that honor at the moment with a cap hit of 6.8 but will be making 7.7 in his last year. Back loaded deal.
I was thinking Drew would get a 6.?? deal but DL has said he might be willing to make him the highest paid player if they can get the length the Kings want. So to me the issue is length of deal. Doughty can get his money on the Kings terms or he can get his terms for less money.

Ain't it always the way (there should be smileys with dollars signs)

There's got to be some middle ground here. The Kings are on the cusp of something special. Fortunately they've got 2 months to get the deal done. I really don't see the Kings trading Doughty.

I had a dream last night that I had dinner with Ken Holland, and I convinced him to trade for Doughty. Holland somehow convinced Lombardi that Ericsson was some sort of a stud, and sent him and Filpulla packing for DD. I've never had such tremendous morning wood.

I think Doughty’s contract isn’t done because after he rejected the first deal, Lombardi didn’t call Meehan again for weeks. He’ll be signed, because it’s the only thing you can do. You can’t trade at this point, because you won’t get fair value for a player every GM knows you’re simply trading because you can’t sign him. If you let him hold out, you’ve forever poisoned the relationship between the team and the player, and you’re going to get even less for him. The deal will get done, even if DL has to hold his nose to do it. I’m not that worried about it.
