both teams played like crap. alford and moore showed up. that's about it
Ball wasn't going in but SMU choked the game away before that.

and ucla choked it away before that. it was an awful game and getting quite the attention nationally. I have a feeling 90% of the people talking about in the media didn't see anything but the last couple minutes of the game

Do you live in a tesseract? Are you a 4 dimensional being? No? then shut the fuck up because in this 3 dimensional universe that fucking ball was above the rim.
Seriously, what was the shot clock?

A Bruin got the tipped ball under the basket and was there for the put back.

No interference and a hit rim, a new clock anyway.

not EVEN CLOSE. not close to over the RIM AT ALL

Even so, not a buzzer beater and still an offensive rebound....

Right under the basket for the put back...

Folks can cry all they want, it was a goaltend. Also, even if it hadn't been, players are taught not to touch the ball in a situation like that because of exactly what happened.

Gotta say, I've seen teams lose because they fouled a guy shooting a 3 with seconds left in the game, but I've never seen a team lose because of goaltending on a 3.

That game deserved to end on a crap/controversial/whatever call because that game was a shitfest. Unwatchable. Both teams should be kicked out of the tournament and the next round team gets a bye.

doesn't matter if it hit the rim, or where he shot it from. It was on a trajectory towards the goal and it was above the rim.

It's a goaltend.

One problem with that theory. The ball came from the left side of the rim. The ball has already passed it to the right in that shot

It wasn't in the cylinder. I totally agree. But it was above the rim, and that matters.

That makes no sense. The ball must be over or heading to the basket to be goaltending. This case ball is shot from the left side of the rim and the defensive player grabs touches it outside of cyclinder on the right side. Touching the ball at 10'2" is not goaltending

I will agree that SMU blew that game, that said that doesn't exempt the refs from criticism for making a horrible and flat out wrong call. Hopefully no one else will be subjected to them this year, because the kids playing their hearts out on the floor deserve better.

Every angle I've seen leads me to believe there was no chance of that ball going in.

Just because the ball is over 10 feet and heading down doesn't make it goaltending. The rule does state there has to be a chance of the ball going in. If I shoot from half court at my own basket and the opposing team grabs it before it falls below the rim, it's not goaltending. This wasn't as bad a call as that would have been, but really, this is the sort of thing that should be reviewable.

That game was a shit fest, I totally agree. And UCLA did get the rebound, but at best the guy would've tied it sending the shit fest into OT. It was clearly a bad call, but what really irked me was how intensely the UCLA team celebrated that win. They won on a terribly missed shot. I understand the celebration, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I really hope UAB not only beats UCLA, but embarrasses them.

The Bruins were the underdog, they led most of the game and they were only up by 1 and had to play ten seconds of defense. Many teams throughout the years lost by a last second shot, so they had good reasons to feel good about the win.

Understandable. I just really want to see them run out of the gym next game.

It might have been goaltending by some slim definition of the rule but you can't call that. We are human beings with enough common sense to know that it had no chance of going in.
