lol... yep... crazy... the whole damn place is loopy - despite its traditions and fame, it's pretty far down on my 1,000 courses bucket list. Closest thing I've ever seen to Oakmont's 220ksq' rectangular wave machine is Thistle Dhu (those 120' practice putts - oof.)

The 9-hole Cradle was the most fun I've ever had on a course. 3 or 4 sticks, continuous beverages, barefoot...
our group was an eightsome... they linked us up with 4 other sots... lol

4 retired married brothers... 2 in Colorado, 1 in N. Carolina... virtually impossible to coordinate get-togethers...
wife suggested I don't ask, just get something together and guilt them into attending. lol. so...

I made reservations for 4 at Pinehurst, to stay and play #4, #8 and #1 and copped airline tix for the two CO bones... called it my treat... they gave in without much fuss (lol, all three of their wives excoriated them for even thinking they shouldn't go.) Had an incredible five days together.
Was the single best, most satisfying thing I've ever done in my life.

I can agree that seeing them struggle is fun. Maybe this course is made to see if Pros can make par. That is even more exciting.

Too much luck involved when green complexes are so severe and ridiculously difficult imo.

Burns is in some cabbage. I think if he can get an amazing shot off it might boost his confidence to win, but this could go full disaster. He's pretty buried in thick stuff. Might be smart to play a safe shot and play for par (as a birdie attempt).
