Getting old is rough, especially battling through injuries. Seems everything aches. I had to give up the regular bench press years ago after the pectoral tear and could only bench using dumbells.

No doubt man... Father time doesn't lie ..... I think working out as you get older is really important, but it's way smarter just to stay with light weights and high reps... Doing Yoga is really key also keeping flexibility...

That is logical but hard for me in practice, lol. I started lifting heavy again and the tendonitis and shoulder started flaring up again. I shut it down for a few months and I am going to go back and start over.

did 325 or so once, back when I was young and lifted regularly. Was my max max. Weighed about 190 or so.

but I always considered bench to be kind of the easy weight lifting: Those guys that can clean and jerk, or military press heavy weights, those guys are bad ass. I couldnt do that stuff.

That was about my max. Those lifts like clean and jerk, etc are also the most likely to get someone injured. I was injured doing bench press. If I could start over again I would have just done dumbell presses.

Out of basic training I put up 280 once when I was about 180 pounds. I thought I was hot shit. The idea that a human being can even do this is mind boggling to me. I would have to take multiple breaks in just putting the weights on.

The thing that struck me about Larry Allen was he wasn't wearing a suit. He did 700 with a tee shirt on. In a press suit, he could have done 750

He did about 50 pounds more than twice his body rate for one rep? A lot of weight for sure. I used to lift weights with this young Asian guy. This guy couldn't have weighed more than 140 pounds. I spotted him bench pressing 260 pounds using dumbells for five reps. That is just as impressive.
260lbs with Dumb bells. That is crazy!

Ah ... Yeah it's tough with old injuries ... Try light weight high reps and I bet it keeps that tendonitis from flaring, you can still be strong and get ripped doing reps... It's sucks when you get injured because you just lose all the gains anyway ... better too just take it easy and avoid injury so you can be consistent ....
