He sucks as a starter. He can be decent a middle reliever but as a starter he's trash and gives up the long ball far too often

Most of his home runs have been at home though. 71 of the 112 home runs he's given up in the majors were at YS3. And he's only pitched 356.1 innings at YS3.

Target Field seems like a much better fit for Hughes. There hasn't been too many home runs by lefties there.

Yes, but the problem of not having a third pitch still remains, he is Wade Davis all over again, but in a Twins uniform.

Thank you Moose, and that is why Vargas was a better fit than Hughes. At least the Twins are trying to build something around Mauer for a change.

Good signing for starting to look like they want to try and get better, Cano to take Morneau's 4 hole spot thats open? (joking people)

The fact that this is a worthwhile gamble for small markets really sucks quite frankly, but it is understandable why the Twins would do this.

The only positive thing I'll say about this signing is that Hughes did pitch well at Target field anytime he pitched there

There are plenty of positives. Still only 27. He literally shits on yhe garbage we have been throwing out there. Bigger stadium, no pressure.

Banking on 3 years is a little risky but whatever we need to do something.

Now if we resign pelfrey. I'll scream.

Eh, it depends which Hughes shows up....if the 2010/2012 version shows up, he'd be a slightly above average starter. If the 2011/2013 version shows up, he's a poor starter.

It could turn out to be a solid signing for the Twins, considering his long ball problem was primarily at Yankee Stadium (70% of his home runs allowed the last 4 years being at Yankee Stadium), and he's going to a park that's not known as a HR friendly park.

Hughes will not be any help. he sucked when he was with the Yanks and im sure he still will

Based on what? He's leaving Yankee Stadium where he pitched poorly in and going to a more pitcher friendly park.

2 of his last 4 years were probably slightly above average, and if you look at the splits, 70% of his home runs allowed (which were his main issue) were at Yankee Stadium. He's going to Target Field now, where HRs aren't prevalent, and you're sure he'll still suck because?

Any way to determine how many HR's in YS3 would go out in TF?

Hittrackeronline.com gives gives a number of how many ballparks each of his HRs would've been gone in, but I couldn't find whether they listed the breakdown of which parks exactly..

ESPN Home Run Tracker :: Player and Field Detail

Of his 17 HRs allowed at Yankee Stadium in 2013, 8 of them would've been gone in 15 parks or less, with 5 of them being gone in 8 or less parks (also, 3 of the 17 would've been gone in less than 3 parks).

The overlay (select TF) suggests all but one of his HR would've been out there but 9 of the 24 seemed to have gone to left center which just does not carry well at TF.
