Target Field seems like a much better fit for Hughes. There hasn't been too many home runs by lefties there.

Thank you Moose, and that is why Vargas was a better fit than Hughes. At least the Twins are trying to build something around Mauer for a change.

The fact that this is a worthwhile gamble for small markets really sucks quite frankly, but it is understandable why the Twins would do this.

Eh, it depends which Hughes shows up....if the 2010/2012 version shows up, he'd be a slightly above average starter. If the 2011/2013 version shows up, he's a poor starter.

It could turn out to be a solid signing for the Twins, considering his long ball problem was primarily at Yankee Stadium (70% of his home runs allowed the last 4 years being at Yankee Stadium), and he's going to a park that's not known as a HR friendly park.

Based on what? He's leaving Yankee Stadium where he pitched poorly in and going to a more pitcher friendly park.

2 of his last 4 years were probably slightly above average, and if you look at the splits, 70% of his home runs allowed (which were his main issue) were at Yankee Stadium. He's going to Target Field now, where HRs aren't prevalent, and you're sure he'll still suck because?

The overlay (select TF) suggests all but one of his HR would've been out there but 9 of the 24 seemed to have gone to left center which just does not carry well at TF.
