Right now the Devils only have 20 healthy players under contract. The other three are Mair (no contract), Salvador (cuncussed), Salmela (Knee).

According to TG at fire and ice, IF the Devils want to send a veteran player to the minors through waivers, they will need to put the player on waivers Tuesday at noon so they can clear Wednesday at noon. Remember: The Devils need to be under the cap ceiling by 3Pm Wednesday.

==============================

I think that it's extremely likely that Salvador goes on LTIR, meaning the Devils won't need to make any other moves at the moment. They will have a short roster, and will be lacking a long term solution, but won't have their games forfeited.

I also think that it's extremely likely that once a trade is made JJ or another forward gets called up very, very quickly. Possibly even before Thursday's game.

I'm sure Lou looks at the LTIR scenario as a bargaining chip. The Devils can't be "held ransom" since the season is starting in a few days.

yeah the LTIR was a huge blessing! i had a feeling they would go that route i thought it would of been rolston...so im correct to assume with salvador going on that the devils will not have to make another move to get under the cap? say by trade or waiver?

2 things though...i think we dont see salvador til the playoffs

the other being i think the devils couldve handled this a bit better. yeah i know thats a tough spot they are in. but with this being held over the players heads for a longer period of time it could backfire.

teams know sooner or later the devils will have to do something so if its tomorrow or december the devils will still have little leverage in a trade. i say just get it over with so EVERYONE fans players media knows whos going to be with the team and not play this guessing game!

Cup, you're correct. If Salvador goes on LTIR, the Devils will have 11 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies.

Still no news about the waiver wire. So barring a trade, Salvador is heading for LTIR.

If they were really going to go with 20, why not keep Corrente instead of Fraser, he could fill in at forward or D. That and the fact Fraser absolutely sucks.

its a good point, but i think you have to worry on d.

they made it sound like they truely had no intention of using him at forward, and lets face it, this roster of 20 isn't permanent, its to buy time, and make it look like other teams don't have leverage on us in a trade situation.

fraser will never be anything more than a 6th dman in this league barring he stops panicing, but you take him away and now 3 of your 7 d men are rookies. he may only be a sophomore, but the experience definately saved his roster spot IMO

Am I correct in thinking that each day Sal is on LTIR equates to a loss to actual salary cap?

Say he was activated in mid season: his cap hit still counts as a full 2.9 and the Devil's cap cushion of 2.9 is removed. The team is now responsible for his full cap as well as half of his injury replacement's cap (assuming replacement is sent down/waived).

i don't know for sure.... i thought when matvichuk was on LTIR his cap his was abbreviated or maybe i just think that because (and i can't remember for sure) but maybe we just had plenty of cap room?

and for the record FUCK sutter for kicking him out of town, always like matty,
just dreaming and i know he'd be old now but i'd take volch, matty, tallinder over volch, white, tallinder any day

i think whenever salvador comes back his salary will be adjusted to where it is during the season. thats what makes trading for players at the deadline an option. noway could the devils get kaberle at his full price but with 3/4 the season played they can take his cap hit at 3/4 the price

Experience would be worth something if he had actually progressed and learned from it. He seems to have actually gotten worse. I'd take my chances with Corrente as the 7 and roll the dice. How much worse could he possibly be??

There is no salary cap come playoff time, technically they're not getting paid for the playoffs. I think a week or so before the cap is obsolete and pretty much anything goes.

I am starting to not like the way this is going. I know it's temporary, but if Lou can't get some real moves done, this team is going to be shitty for a while.
