i think you're out of your mind. atlantic will have 3 of the top 4 point totals in the east. book it.

the leafs and habs are horrible. the sens and sabres are borderline, could explode, but could collapse too.

You may be right but the Sabres underachieved last season and they damn well know it. If you look at this teams roster there is now way they should have missed the playoffs. They had one of the best records in the NHL down the stretch but they can NOT keep putting them self in that position to start with.

I tend to be optimistic and we will wait and see but I feel the potential is there to be better. This team including coaching staff took a LOT of heat after the season and I hope they respond. Not saying they are a SC team but should be better in the standings.

oh i'm not trying to knock the sabres.. they have loads of talent and should be able to compete for a home playoff series, no question.. but they should have last year too, that's my concern with the sabres

i just think the atlantic is leaps and bounds better than the northeast

on paper, where i think they'll finish in their respective divisions

NYR > Bruins
Pens > Sabres
Flyers > Sens
Devils > Habs
Isles > Leafs

the last one is tough, both teams are pretty shitty

but i guess we'll see, that's why they play the games

I kinda agree with awaz. I could see NYR, PHI, or PIT winning the Cup this year...easily. And heck, NJ is only a year removed from a Cup run, but I don't see them winning it. In the Northeast? Boston is the only team I could see making a run.

First off, lol. Biased or not the Bruins are a better team overall than the Flyers. I'd even say they have a better chance at making it to the SCF than the Penguins. The Rangers are better on paper, but once again they inserted a high profile player, I'd be willing to bet there is going to be some chemistry problems. I'd also place the Sabres as a better team than the Devils even after their Cup run last season. I also think the Leafs are better than the Isles.

Oh I agree the Atlantic is a better div but feel the potential is there in the Northeast. Like you said thats why they play the games. This being a short season might throw things a little wacky.

It's going to be fun.

A preseason ranking of all 10 NE/ATL division teams, IMO of course:

New York Rangers
Boston Bruins
Pittsburgh Penguins
Philadelphia Flyers
Buffalo Sabres
New Jersey Devils
Ottawa Senators
Montreal Canadiens
Toronto Maple Leafs
New York Islanders

Whereas in the Atlantic division there will be four closely contested teams (NYR, PIT, PHI, NJD), I believe the Northeast will have three closely contested teams (BOS, BUF, OTT).

so your points for the NE potentially being better than the atlantic are

1. the best team in the NE is better than the 3rd team in the atlantic
2. the best team in the NE, in your opinion, is better than the 2nd team in the atlantic
3. the 2nd best team in the NE is better than the 4th best in the atlantic
4. the NE has a better god awful team than the atlantic

When did I say the NE was potentially better than the Atlantic? I said I believe it will be somewhat similar to last years Atlantic in the sense of so many teams close in the race for the playoffs.

I didn't say Boston wasn't better than these teams...I put Boston in the camp with Flyers, Pens, and Rangers. All of which I could see making a run for a Cup. The Bruins are the only team in the NE on par with the top three of the ATL. This is based on the past few years, who knows what'll change.

Ok, I can agree with this... I read your post wrong, I thought you were impying you only see Boston making the playoffs, not a run for the cup, but you coupld see NYR, PHI and PIT making the Cup Final.

Either way, I think we are in for some big "WTF?" moments this season.

Just watch the Oilers make the playoffs,

I know a certain sporting channel that would be thrilled.
