Detroit due to age & injury. Maybe the Blue Jackets. Philly is another possibility due to their defense. I wasn't impressed with their wingers last night. Brayden Schenn doesn't belong on the 1st line. We'll see. This is why they don't play the games on paper.

I realize there's a recent injury history, but the Wings really aren't that old as a team. People look to Dats & Z, but really those two guys are the same age as Thornton and Marleau and most people don't write the Sharks off as an old team.

According to Team Comparison | NHLnumbers.com the Wings are the 9th oldest team in the league (avg age) and actually younger than "young" teams like Dallas and Colorado.

DET, CBJ and PHI will be tough to pass in the standings. I think the Isles could get in with the help of some long-term injuries to some key guys within their own division (like Lundqvist, Crosby/Malkin, Giroux, Schneider) and an overall healthy season themselves.

Philly is a team whose 1st rounder I'd be trying to get in a trade. They could be really really bad with a bad break or two.

Mentioned this in a similar thread a few weeks ago but I predict the Panthers will sneak into the playoffs this year. On a related note, I also predict that Gerard Gallant will win coach of the year, partly deserved but partly just being in the right place at the right time.

I definitely think the Panthers will be much improved - the young guys will improve but the veterans will finally start holding their weight, unlike in previous years
