This ought to be interesting.
Normally, I wouldn't be all that concerned. Daniels is familiar with the system, so the learning curve is at a minimum. The trouble is twofold tho. He only has at best two days of running the offense with the first team, so there is really no time to get familiar with the receivers in terms of timing and whatnot. The other problem is we lose the running aspect from the QB position. Trubisky keeps defenses on their toes because he's as effective, if not more so, at running the ball than passing it. Daniels does not have this advantage at all. The Lions know it will be just about all passing or handing off, with the only time he runs is if protection breaks down and he's forced to scramble.
I see much more a pure west coast offense approach tomorrow - lot's of crossing patterns, hot reads, etc. Let's hope the defense is up to snuff.
Maybe Nagy sneaks in a play or two as a pure run for Daniels just to keep their D honest. And I can definitely see him being utilized in any number of rollouts, no problem there at all. I didn't mention it earlier, but I also foresee a few more screens than what we've been showing in recent weeks.I mean, he ran for a combined 1,000 yards in 3 years as a starter in college. In KC - in the two seasons he started one game a piece in. He had 14 carries for 52 yards and then 4 for 15 yards.
He's not Trubisky... or even close. However, he's athletic enough and could be capable of some of our read option stuff.
No way should Trub suit up unless he's 100%. If he's starting next Sunday, then we have to believe he's fully recovered. I don't think Nagy will have it any other way.If Trubs is still not 100%, do we let him rest another game and start Daniel against the Giants?
