I figured it was Beltre. Didn't find anything in his bio to suggest that. Boggs was my other choice.

The initial thought would be Berra, but they didn't run much in his time. The stolen base was a big deal in the 70s and Bench gunned down a lot of them. Munson probably nailed a few of them.

I am going with Molina, for reasons that are apparent. He has the longest career

Hint, I never read anything that even suggest 'hof' in your question. Is that necessary?

It's going to be someone from the dead ball era. Hall of Famer? I'll guess Ray Schalk (although he is an undeserving one).

Edit: just saw not HoFer and NL so Schalk is no good

The only other guy who qualifies is Gary Carter. Yeah, he was in the stolen base-is-a-big deal era.

Runners thrown out couldn't find a stat on that, just knew IRod leads everyone in putouts by quite a bit

So this using some definition of "modern era" I'm assuming? I don't know if my guess (Schalk) is the correct answer but I find it hard to believe that Gary Carter is ahead of him.

It ain't Schalk then, looks like there are 4 guys ahead of his 1,009 just on this list.

Bbref has this leaderboard, no?

I find it interesting that anyone could throw out 1,000 runners. If a guy gets 50 a year now, it seems like a lot. I guess they didn't hold runners much in the dead ball era.

You had to manufacture runs then
Bigger parks, less tech film, etc. Im guessing Carter got 800+ due to the age of Astro turf. I think the cards in the mid 80's had 5 guys have 30+steals on the year.
