As the US national debt reaches $22 trillion, one man has an idea to bring that number down slightly.

Ian Hammond has started a Change.org petition calling for the US to sell the state of Montana to Canada for $1 trillion, and the idea is attracting a lot of attention.

The petition has garnered over 11,500 signatures as of Wednesday evening, and Hammond has continued to raise the signature goal as it keeps surpassing each one. The current goal is 15,000 signatures.

The petition makes the case that “We have too much debt and Montana is useless,” adding, “Just tell them [Montana] has beavers or something.”

Lol! Pretty sure the Canadian government would do their due diligence and...

Someone get Canada on the line, please.

Montana is absolutely gorgeous. It has some serious fucking rednecks, but it's gorgeous.

I've followed that case closely. I'm barely 1/2 mile out of that district, so it's close to home in a very literal sense.

Writing was on the wall and he knew it. Even if we believe that they missed the red flags unintentionally, I think the GOP realized it was far too damaged in this case and pulled their support. Without that, he knew he had no future.

Walk away now and - if it wasn't unintentional - avoid the much more severe consequences.

It's an embarrassing situation for my state but I think that we got it right, even if it took a long time.

One of the good things I see coming out of this is that there finally seems to be more of a bi-partisan push to eliminate gerrymandering. Dems did it while they were in power and it was wrong. Repubs do it now and it's still wrong. But they're losing some of their control so we're in the squishy middle where the next round could be more of a toss up, so neither party wants to take a chance. And I'm ok with that.

If it starts the ball rolling on killing off gerrymandering nationwide, then it is a great thing.

Dude!! Why did you put a tambourine around that goat's neck?

I thought we were gonna form a band. He seemed all excited about the idea at first, but then creative differences reared their horns, and, well.... let's just say I'm not proud of how things ended.

President Trump is going to make July 4th a thing. Like a celebration of some kind. With fireworks and everything.
