This is probably the implosion of the Republican Party that Democrats have been hoping for.

1) Mitch McConnell absolutely, positively does not want to use the nuclear option. If he does so, the next time the Dems control all three branches (could be as soon as 2021) you're going to get tax hikes, universal healthcare, minimum wage rise, banning gasoline...all of it. And he'll get nothing except this shitty spending bill that accomplishes nothing.

2) If McConnell doesn't go nuclear, Trump and McConnell are pissed at each other and while it won't completely stop some of the things the Senate can do for Trump's agenda (right-wing judges will still get approved en masse, for example) it does, combined with the Democratic House, make for what should be an uneventful two legislative years.

3) They already have that Trump soundbite saying "I WILL BE THE ONE CLOSING THE GOVERNMENT" just waiting for radio and TV time. Trump trying to pin this on the Democrats now is impossible.

All for $5 billion towards a wall that will cost $100 billion and thus never get fucking built. That's some impressive fucking of one's selves.
