How did the WH get the Gorsuch nomination so fucking bang on and pick a guy who had so many obvious flaws after him and in a period where time is of the essence?

I think there's a good chance he's about to get Borked.

I think the biggest reason the WH selected Kavanaugh was his strong belief on not indicting sitting presidents.

Literally any nominee they chose would be of the same ilk though no? Like there's no fucking chance Gorsuch is indicting Trump.

Yeah, that's true - For the recent nomination process though, it seems like there was about 6 or 7 strong candidates and the two things that seemed to stick out for Kavanaugh were his thoughts on strong presidential power and not indicting sitting presidents. That likely jumped him to the top of the list.

And by "biggest" you mean "only"?

Trump is the one with an interest in a guy who never wants to indict a president. McConnell et al wanted to push any guy who will overturn Roe V Wade, put them gays in their place and not stand in the way of giving kindergarten teachers AR-15s. So yeah, their list was all the same, Trump picked this one out of the hat as it were.

That's (one of ) the thing(s) that doesn't make sense. If Trump is impeached, surely Kavanaugh, if confirmed, would get impeached as well, no? There is enough evidence of perjury, so why try to install him in a hurry if he can just be removed?

It kind of feels like the establishment republicans realize their gravy train is nearly over and they are just trying to grab anything they can. Problem is, they aren't organized enough to make it coherent. "Kid in a candy store" as it were.

They got a pretty big one through recently by passing a law that lobbying groups do not have to disclose their donors. The day after a report said that Russia funneled millions into the last presidential race through the NRA.

As the numbers turn against them, they wil do everything and anything they can to make sure they hold on power

I'd say that's doubtful unless Trump's impeachment (for the record, I don't think that's happening) produced a MASSIVE change in power in Congress. There has been one impeachment of a SCOTUS justice in our history and one other who may have been (he resigned before it got too far).

And the farce that is Senate hearings aside, if the Senate does in fact confirm him, it becomes a pretty big stretch IMO to say that the President's taint (sorry for that image) stretches (again) to the ability of the Senate to confirm the nominee.

Michael Avenatti has made his twitter account private, apparently he's been besieged by trolls and Trump supporters.

I really don't get how they let him (he was too restrained, so I'm guessing these were prepared remarks) go into the speech with so easily disproved "facts."

You could probably find a dozen real examples of security concerns associated with Russian energy. Why pick the one that is demonstrably false?

I get that that kind of stuff plays well in a political speech to supporters, but to a foreign delegation of very smart people?
