Like I told a friend, when Orakpo got injured, the pick of Trent Murphy in the draft has gotten even more significant. I am eager to see what he can do full time. Somehow, I don't think he will disappoint.
well he's only going against tyron smith so good luck murphy.
one game wont tell us much but i hope he does well
If he plays well as some are suggesting, don't we have to question the decision makers......again?
Remember when many predicted a serious drop off when Hall got injured? Well it didn't happen, in fact Breland appears to have a much lower learning curve and quite a bright future as one poster predicted when he suggested that Hall should have been moved to the slot.![]()
How so?
Who is predicting that Murphy is going to play well and, if he does, how is that a ding against "the decision makers"?
The title of this thread is, "Trent Murphy is ready to ball out" If he does then, just like the decision to partly bench Polumbus it comes too late and in this instance only because of injury. Like I said the decision to play Hall in any position other than in the slot was a fatal mistake as this team's future at corner lies in their more youthful players. Hall because of his experience would have made a glaring weakness, less so. Guess I was the only one who saw this, yet here we are, still weak down the middle and in a youth movement at corner. Orakpo has been terrorizing the league.....right? So if Murphy comes in and as the title indicates "balls out" (gets more than 0.5 sacks) then who's the genius that held him out in favor of the world beater Orakpo?
If he plays well as some are suggesting, don't we have to question the decision makers......again?

It did happen. The defense has been significantly constrained in the play calling and schemes its been using since Hall went down. The defense had played well vs Houston, played well vs Jags, and was pitching a shutout through the 2nd qtr vs Philly when Hall went down. Philly lit up the rest of the game offensively and we've been terrible on defense ever since then.
I read an article somewhere talking about how much juggling of the schemes Haslett has had to do with Hall out and two young corners starting. Less blitzing, more soft zones, more deep safety help, just less aggressive overall. Its been noticeable.
First, the article is about a position that the player himself has taken, not supported by anyone on this board that I've see. I can't recall any stating that Murphy is set to explode against Smith and the Cowboys. In fact, my expectations are rather low that he will provide much this game. Second, Orakpo has been a very good OLB so how can you fault the "decision makers" for keeping him in the line up? IF Trent comes in and plays well, great. That just means that the "decision makers" were actually right about him and his abilities to play at this level against what most of the rest of the league thought.
As for Hall, I think he maybe could have helped us at Safety more than the slot. He is a natural ball hawk that gets burned on the corner when he plays too aggressively on the out and up. But put him in center field and let him run down the fly balls to the gap, and he may very well have had a couple of pics by now. As fro Breeland, he shows promise. Again, the "decision makers" may have been right about him.
Polombus is a completely different situation. He has always sucked and its just a matter of time before he is out. That is all dependent upon the development of Moses. Unforunately, Moses isn't ready yet.
I've gotta admit, you're way way better at this than I am........Unless you can honestly say that there is a noticeable difference in Hasletts' schemes, seems the same as last year to me with Hall!
