Does it matter as much for a strong armed qb who will take most of his snaps in a shotgun? Both our qb's have a pretty decent release.

Good takes on the the last couple posts. Like to see McGovern be somebody to minimize the search party for help on this line. I'm also very worried about Parradis, who I think is our best lineman, to not only get to 100% but stay that way. Finding good tackles and guards is tough enough but finding a good center that also is the " Qb " of the line is extremely, IMO, priceless. Personally, if Denver rolls with Trevor and Lynch , I see the Broncos taking at least two seasons ( and that's with good luck in draft, a FA unheralded lineman or two ) to get to a " good " run/pass balanced team. Not only does it seem to be a huge stroke of luck to pull off a solid an O line as Dallas has done and in really a rather short period of time, but they stayed pretty healthy to allow these guys to gel together and learn. Denver needs to get some luck going their way when it concerns the line. I don't think their not working their butts off to figure it out, ya just need some goll durn good fortune too. :)

You are right man it is not an overnight fix and is going to take some luck and better evaluation to turn this thing around. The good thing with Elway is that he has shown that things he has maybe messed up on in the past he works hard to correct and get better at. He isn't so hard headed that he completely blames everybody else.

For me this next year if the OL looks like even just an average unit I would consider that a huge victory. That would be a huge step forward giving me hope that we are moving in the right direction. I do think that is more than possible to accomplish. A couple of good FA signings (yes I know that hasn't completely worked out in the past) where Elway is going to have to be willing to overspend a little. Unfortunately that is the problem with the supply being so low and the demand being so high. We have the resources though to go get it done so time to go for some of the bigger name guys and pay the man.

^ the thing is we know it's not going to be an overnight fix but we also know that doesn't mean all is lost for 2017. I like the idea of bringing in Whitworth to a 2 year deal and drafting a viable replacement this year or next. What I like about that is the cost of the deal is Whitworth's contract. I like the idea of the Joe Thomas trade because he'd really anchor that side of the line and he's a couple year's younger than Whitworth so maybe they'd be able to extend his contract a year or two and buy more time to draft to that position. This option is pricier though because of the salary plus whatever the Broncos give up in a trade.

Either of these options will make the line a better unit in 2017. And assuming the defense is able to shore up the run, (they were 18th in yards per attempt, so not as awful as it appeared when you look at the top line numbers) this is a team that can contend for the AFC West title again with 10 or 11 wins with Lynch or Siemian at QB.

But at some point the team is going to have to grow it's own line talent. It won't happen all at once, so I'm all for the Broncos taking best O-lineman available in the mid rounds of this year's draft. Maybe pick up two guys this year who can grow into a starting role in a season or two and do the same next year.

I also think our QBs being in the shotgun more will help. They'll not have to turn their back to the pass rush during play action, and that extra distance may be enough to make the difference between life and death. I do believe the O-line is the most likely candidate to derail the team's success in 2017, but there's a lot of factors that will affect this and the team can work through it, even with young QBs on the roster.

Yep. It would be great to get Whit and Thomas because that scenario would really give Denver the help they really would need to get that balanced attack on O and with the pretty strong D, to contend for 2017 title. Unfortunately, odds are slim at best and then you look at the viable possibilities/options that Elway has staring him in face for options, and it's pretty bleak. Best case scenario is Elway and Co.uncharacteristically, hit on some draft picks ( O line ), have right coaches in place and hang on to them to help evolve into a respectable unit. I'm pretty nervous that this team will achieve their offensive woes " before " this very good D starts to lose key components and regress before that happens and then we'll finally have a very good balanced offense but with a D that gives up 30 pts a game. :) Need some good fortune Gents and some great " scouting " and very smart business maneuvering as well. Ala NE :)

Here is my thought on if a trade were to happen for Thomas. It wouldn't be about draft picks but more about players. The Browns already have 11 picks in the upcoming draft and quite a few in the top-100. They also have more cap space than they probably know what to do with so then adding even more cap space isn't something that will appeal to them.

So players that would probably be available...

Shaq Barrett--My guess is any trade with the Browns would include this guy. He will be on his last year with the Broncos most likely because they won't be able to pay him what other teams will on the open market. We also know the Browns really like this kid and tried to get him in the past.

Trevor Siemian--I have a hard time seeing Elway even think about trading Paxton Lynch. First off if the Broncos are willing to put him on the market after one season teams will know his value isn't that high so Broncos would never get close to the value they would want to try and recoup. Siemian though offers a bit of value especially for a team like Cleveland that will most likely take a rookie QB unless they trade for Jimmy G. Siemian gives them a guy with experience that can hold the fort while a rookie tries to learn the offense.

Bradley Roby--Now stick with me on this one. Roby is entering the last year of his rookie deal (unless we do his option year). This is a very deep Corner draft so Broncos could find a viable replacement in the 2nd or 3rd round. Roby did just have a bit of a down year and not sure the Broncos are ready to commit to him long-term. I could see a Roby for Thomas straight up swap.
