I think I value Boone more as backup tackle than I do at guard.

At guard, we could probably get by with Looney. But if Staley went down or Davis went down, who's going to play tackle? If we had Boone, Boone would shift to tackle and Looney in at guard.

Boone has been solid at RG. I'm not confident that Looney will have the same production. I guess we will see if Boone wants to sit the season. I would bump Snyder over Looney at RG. Looney is better at a T position IMO.

J. Martin will be our swing tackle this year.

If it's true and likely is since Gil Brandt isn't one of those types to just throw things out there than Boone's camp is officially a bunch of idiots.

If it is actually true, then time for the 49ers to tell Boone and his agent, that if he's not in camp be X time. No new contract, fines will be collected and he may as well retire if he doesn't show up. The 49ers own his ass for two years, he wants to be unreasonable, then give it to him in kind.

and your opinion is fine, but wasn't Looney always an OG at Wake Forest? if so, wondering why you think that?

we always read about college OT's who project as NFL OG's, but we never see the opposite? We see a few college TE's, who project to OT.

actually not surprising.

that's just negotiations, offer and counter offers. yes, am assuming this was the first volley.
At this point a possible trade might be in order if the 9ers can get something worthy. Two preseason games left and no deal worries me if he were to join the team with a new contract. The 9ers could make him sit and pretty much ruin his career if they wanted to.

True that he was never more than a G. He has quick hands and feet. Good for a G but better for a T. He lacks the push that a G needs for the rushing game. I think he would be better at T for the pass rush.

I agree. You know at first I was on Boone side, he deserves a better contract, but once they start acting greedy, time to play hard ball.

IF AB was offered top 12 $ for an OG, how much is that?
I looked at each team by position and average salary to establish what a top 12 contract would look like in average salary.
If accurate it looks like this by team and position only relative to OG for that team's highest player at OG assuming they have a top 12 contract in average salary.
1) Hou @ $8.9M
2)NE @ $8.5M
3) NO @ $8.1M
4) Tenn @ $7.8M
5) NO @ $7.2M
6) GB @ $6.7M
7) Bal @ $6.4M
8) Atl @ $6.4M
9) Stl @ $6.3M
10) Phi @ $6.0M
11) Jax @ $6.0M
12) Oak @ $6.0M

Iupati @ $3.0M

I would be surprised if Boone passed on a $6M average salary. I realize my #'s are based off of average salary and other bonus' would have a affect on a contract.
Something doesn't add up. Either the 12th best contract offer is bogus or Boone is.

Now there are denials that such a contract was ever offered. Latest word is that a new contract was not offered, only a contract extension was offered.

once they settle on the terms, wouldn't it be an extension? highly doubt we'd give more money and keep it at two years?

I just went back and watched the game again. Looney looked fine to me. Boone is very quickly losing leverage. We don't need him. I wonder if he will continue to hold out by the time week 1 gets here.

No surprise here really.

They have no reason to move him unless they get blown away with an offer thus I don't see them open for business unless the compensation starts at a 2nd rounder.
