Its close to be a done deal they are reporting. Between 8-9 million a year.

Strong Mutual Interest Between 49ers & WR Torrey Smith | NFL Trade Rumors -

After looking at T. Smith Im not upset with this move. At first I was. But then found out he is only 25/26 years old. The kid adds a deep threat to this team that we need. He gives us the Big play threat. Im not thrilled about 8-9 mill a year but if you look at his age and what he brings it isn't that bad. i would rather have him then Crabtree.

Question is now if we do sign him what do we do with our 1st pick? Do we still go WR or go CB?

Now if we don't sign him please get rid of this thread. Thank you

CB or one of those pass rushers - Beasley, Ray, Dupree?

Man I would like Beasley. I just don't see how he would get on the field.

Im starting to really like this pick up if it happens. I thought he was like 29 but being only 25 turning 26 Im ok with this kind of pick up. 100% we cut Johnson if this happens.

I would rather have Maclin at 1-2 more million but Torrey is still a good WR. I would like to go CB in the 1st if we do this move and then draft a DE in the 2nd. Maybe hope a good WR we like falls to us in the 3rd.

This would be a solid move for SF. Torrey is a deep threat but I don't think he's a true #1.

He's more of a #2. Baltimore struggled in 2013 with Torrey as the #1. Would he be the #1 in SF?

The 49ers wouldn't have a true #1 but to me they would have 2 really good #2s in Boldin and Torrey.

I don't think he is a number one but that is ok. We can draft our #1. Parker, DGb or Strong.

If we keep Stevie it would give us 3 really good #2's and one of them can go deep and add speed to this offense. Stevie, Crabtree and Boldin were all similar. Smith changes it up for us.

Didn't they cut Stevie?

This doesn't sound like a done deal yet. Other reports have this as just mutual interest with SF in the lead, but if the bidding gets too high, SF is expected to bow out.

That is what the scouting reports I've read have ben saying. Not a true number 1. He does fill a need as the 49ers don't have a receiver that can stretch a defense. I am just wondering whether he is worth the cost, assuming we ink him. I am also wondering why Baltimore isn't interested in resigning him if indeed he signs with SF. Baltimore obviously didn't think he was worth that money

If they are actually trying to work out a contract, that is significant. That means they are mutually trying to work something out and it is not just the 49ers kicking the tires on a free agent. There was a lot of that last year with Walter Thurmand, Emmanual Sanders, and others

Are they reporting how many other teams are pursuing as well?

Colts and Texans are also interested in Torrey. This might be why we arent going for Maclin.

When teams evaluate tape of WRs: They see a distinct difference from Smith vs. Crabtree, Shorts, Maclin in regard to ability to separate.
