I always heard that AA is where the prospects are located and AAA is where the bodies are buried. I suppose it depends on the hitter. The lights are not as bright in the minors, there's one deck on the stadium and not everybody can get you out. But hitters are hitters. He would probably struggle for awhile.
some guys have made the jump with success, some havent

trout came up, struggled, sent down
justin upton stuck for a while
andruw jones at 19, hit .400 in the WS that year with 6 RBI

by 20 all the above guys were regulars, with call ups at 19

I drafted him this year, thinking theres an outside shot he gets a call. acuna did.

Prospect Heat Check: Is MLB ready for a 19-year-old hitting prodigy?

fucking service time is preventing it:

Unfortunately, the game does not work like this, and so we’re left to ogle from afar the terror Guerrero is inflicting on Double-A pitchers. After another two-hit game Monday, Guerrero was hitting .380/.442/.582. He had just 10 strikeouts in 79 at-bats, matched by 10 walks. And a pair of longtime scouts who have seen him in recent weeks agreed when asked about Guerrero in a Blue Jays uniform.

“He’s ready,” one said.

“He’d hit in the big leagues today,” the other said.

Because it is the furthest thing from Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro’s style to summon a cornerstone-type player without taking into account service-time considerations, the prospect of Guerrero debuting in the big leagues on the cusp of his father’s Hall of Fame induction is unlikely. Still, there is a case to be made that it could w

Let’s first acknowledge the obvious: It would start his service clock earlier than any player since Alex Rodriguez arrived nearly a quarter-century ago. At his July 8, 1994, debut, A-Rod was 18 years, 346 days old. Today, Vlad Jr. is 19 years, 46 days – younger than Adrian Beltre (19.078), Andruw Jones (19.114), Ken Griffey Jr. (19.133), Bryce Harper (19.195), Pudge Rodriguez (19.205) or Mike Trout (19.335) at theirs. Understandably, the Blue Jays do not want to run the risk of losing him to free agency in his prime.

I think it's gonna be a real dogfight between the Red Sox and the Yankees, so they are either thinking financial or they don't want to ruin him by bringing him up too early. I would do it after the All-Star break, if he still appears ready.

hes the best player in the league, beyond guys 2-3 years older. hes ready as he will ever be.

Top baseball prospect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. plays in Harrisburg this weekend

Guerrero Jr. leads the Eastern League in hits (41), batting average (.387) and RBIs (35). The 6-foot-1, 200-pound slugger was just selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for April 30-May 6 - the second time this season that he's claimed the weekly award.

I think now it sort of depends. The guys who come out of the better collegiate programs have played more games and hit the pro grind a little better. They have seen better pitching, have better coaching, etc.

Pitchers really aren't the same thing. I think a 20-year-old guy with speed and a decent batting approach can adapt pretty quickly. Of course, that's all about the contracts now, so seeing a 20-year-old in the bigs is less likely every year.

Most likely are the Latin kids who get drafted at some ridiculous age of 16. Most of them turkey out too, though.

I understand why teams don't like bringing up the minor leaguers... But IMO it makes no sense... the way I see it, the reason teams don't bring them up is because they are assuming that the player is going to be great... and they don't want to lose the rights to them... if you are betting on your player, then do what Philadelphia did with Kingery...

the FOMO is terrible...

It depends on the organization.

It didn't used to be this way, but now pretty much every highly ranked Braves prospect spends time in AAA.

Acuna and Albies were both in AAA before getting called up. So was Soroka. Kolby Allard and Austin Riley, who are likely the next two in line are in AAA now.

batting .433
.481 OBP

Through 46 games with the Toronto Blue Jays Double-A affiliate, Guerrero was batting .433 with 10 home runs and an on-base percentage of .481. He had nearly the same number of double and triples (19) as strikeouts (20).

Was just reading that. Too bad. He could be very very good!

You never can tell until they get up here, but he looks like he will be great. He's only 19, so I doubt this will be much of a setback. Probably just delays his debut a bit.
