Roger Craig was the fullback for a while. No one mentioned him.
Yea early in his career but he was a fullback like Joe Perry was as in he lined up "fully back" from the line of scrimmage. He did become a HB and than a RB so I didn't include him in my list.
This is why I would not include the jet on the FB list...
I said it was cheating
Top Five Defensive lineman-
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
right now...........Bryant Young for sure.
First 'Top Five'
All time 49er Offensive lineman-
1:
2:
3:
4:
5:
1. Bryant Young
2. Pete Kugler
3. Pierce Holt
4. Charles Haley
5. Jim Stucky
6. Reggie McGrew [j/k]
Michael Carter did a good job, albeit short term.
and oh, Justin Smith is clearly one of our best, but we didn't draft him so for ME, not counting him.
DLINE (I asked my dad about this one and did some research with his choices and came up with this)
1. Young
2. Haley (was he a LB?)
3. Leo Nomellini (10 probowls HOF)
4. Justin Smith (he became BY of the new team)
5. Cedric Hardman (over 100 sacks for the Niners in the 70's (18 in 14 games in 71)
This is a pretty legit list... I'm not sure I would have Haley at #2 because he was a bit of a tweener, his attitude toward his teammates and coaches, and the fact that he was a Cowboy. But he is still top five...
I don't have a problem with Justin Smith being on the list, but I think he could be changed out with three or four other great D-lineman in 49er history and nobody would make too much of an argument...
Glad to see Leo getting some love!
Michael Carter
Fred Dean
Charles Haley
Dana Stubblefield
Bryant young
2. Haley (was he a LB?)
He played the "elephant" position if I'm not mistaken. Essentially he was a DE.
