Apparently not even close.

Just for an excercize, what argument could there possibly be for Hooper?

Well, I have no clue how to equate power from the pre1920s to now, but it of course looks like Crawford was more of a power hitter... Hooper was the better OBP guy and the better defender... Now I know there OBPs are very close, but Hooper has significantly more walks... And what that tells me is that he saw more pitches and worked the count better... And that helped weaken the SP at the end of the game... I assume Hooper was more of a top of the order guy compared to Crawford being in the middle...

I do agree Crawford wins, but I don't see it to be as landslide as you... But again, I just don't know how to equate power, I see Crawford career OPS+ is 144 which is equal to Lance Berkman...

Interesting take on the OBP with more walks argument. However to say one is better than the other (more walks vs less walks) is a stretch, the stat can be used by both sides of the argument.

If there are 2 players with a .330 OBP (just took an arbitrary number), but one player had 30 more walks than the other, both could claim that they are the better player.

"Walker" sees more pitches and therefore wears down the pitcher more, allows base-runners to steal, bores defenders and allows other hitters to gauge the pitcher (all theoretically).

"Hitter" probably has a higher SLG (and thus a higher OPS) because of those 30 additional times on base, those are not all singles. He is also opening the defense up to errors and will, at least occationally, advance the runner more than 1 base (and advance runner without someone on 1st). Of course there is the "problem" of double plays. But this player also will get more SFs compared to "Walker"s K.

yes, but that's why I made the point saying that hooper looks like more of a top of the order guy compared to Crawford being more of a middle of the lineup guy... a top of the order guy I don't care as much about them being a hitter... The 3 most important things a top of the order guy can do is get on base(most important), steal bases and work the count...

If you look at my previous voting, I have always said I don't like top of the order guys who don't walk... I just think it is a VERY important skill...
