I have consistently voted for pitchers over position players...

There are definitely players on the list already that should not be ahead of Arod - but I still have a few pitcher that I'd put ahead of him...

I have consistently voted for pitchers over position players...

There are definitely players on the list already that should not be ahead of Arod - but I still have a few pitcher that I'd put ahead of him...

I can vote for Arod eventually, but not before real baseball legends.

of course we all have different reasons to vote for everyone in every round... but can you share how you can be willing to vote for him at some point(which means the "cheating" doesnt bother you that much")... if you look blindly at his stats and accomplishments, he is easily a top 15 player... by all regards...

I can’t imagine ARod is a question for anyone at this point. Stink aside, I don’t think there is an argument here. If he isn’t getting your vote now, he will never get your vote. The competition doesn’t matter.

Mathewson vs Koufax is actually an interesting one... because both have not been voted on yet because of their longevity... they both lack the longevity of greatness than their contemporaries..


Mathewson still though has 10 years of eliteness... compared to Koufax only having 5...

I only see him near the top for career home runs and RBIs. Meh. He needs to have more claims than just steroid stats.

He batted .358 once. Then never came close again. That Arod died, he killed him himself. Sad.

Agreed. I'd have Rodriguez ahead of Henderson, Griffey, Pujols, Schmidt, DiMaggio... I find it odd that Bonds got voted in despite his steroid usage, but Arod is receiving push-back... (Also, when it comes to cheating, I fall in the Jose Canseco camp - I just assume everyone was using.)

Overall though, I have Mathewson ahead of Arod.

interesting opinion... it is always hard to compare pitching to offense...

i do wonder if these 2 are the most deserving to be the next pitchers... but that needs further analysis...

There is a very clear distinction between B&C and ARod. Not sure how that gets lost.

But I agree about ARod’s placement. Ignore the PEDs thing, and he is pushing top 10, imho. But he wasn’t playing baseball, so he is hard to rank ANYWHERE in a baseball list.

You're thinking about steroids in baseball all wrong

PEDs have been in baseball far longer, and the problem goes much deeper, than most fans realize.

In your own list, where would you rank Mariano Rivera?

we had a short Mo sidebar already... it really is impossible to answer without seeing how pitching falls off... throughout this i have found new pitchers that i would place differently...

Hell, i always knew Lefty Grove was great... but in no way before this did i think he was a top 5 pitcher of all time... now i do...

point is i dont know how strong my feelings about many elite starters are... i would like to think he would be ranked in the top 15 pitchers... but until i make a list of all pitchers i wont know a real answer...

i will say that the 7 pitchers we have voted in, i have them all over Mo...

i have said this before... Mickey Mantle is famous for taking Roids... but his steroids just didnt help him... and probably even hurt him more...

I just can’t list ANY closer over a starter. I may have trouble ranking Mo over even some non-great SPs. Closers just don’t carry enough of the load to be ranked in a project like this.

All that, and I still remember back to teams that didn’t have a closer and how it absolutely killed the teams chances. I am not certain how to reconcile that.
