Not intentional. You can still vote for him through “other”…
Nah I was ready to change it, he’s not getting on the list and I completely understand it, that vote was more signaling that I think he’s the real deal in terms of all time great talent and execution, and the most exciting player I’ve watched since Bonds

I think Lefty has been BPA for a few votes now but we're getting close to Bench imo. Another 'before my time' kind of thing but he is a top 3 defensive catcher and was a notable hitter in his time just in terms of RBIs and total bases. He is still a bit of a unicorn.

Ott vs Robinson is a crazy weird one... if you look at their stats and how they ranked...

Ott has a higher BA than Robinson, but Robinson had more best seasons at BA,

Robinson has more HRs than Ott, but Ott has more best seasons in HR...

Ott actually lead the league 6 times and had a total of 16 top 5 HR seasons...

Robinson lead the league only once, and had 11 top 5 seasons...

just a very interesting comparison between the 2...

I will certainly have him on the next list. I can’t have someone fall off the list due to an oversight on my part.

Now that he is getting major traction, I am tempted to switch my support to him over Lefty, but as you said, Lefty is still BPA, and has been for a few spots now.

Lefty, Robinson and Bench, I think, are my top 3 atm…

I don't see how Bench at this spot is any less absurd than Griffey. Way too many bonus points for crouching.

It’s definitely less absurd. Bench is the best catcher of all time. Griffey has no claim for the best of all time.

The biggest problem is that the unicorn factor is always impossible to implement.

Yes you are right, if you just look at offensive numbers and only offensive numbers. With no context, there is no way bench would be in question.

But there is so much more going on.

I think this spread is a really good sign for the baseball intelligence of this board. There isn’t a strong recency bias and no strong love for the legends.

It isn’t about crouching. It is about doing things that don’t show up in the stat sheet. Catcher is the most important position on the field, and just because these guys don’t typically hit doesn’t mean they aren’t great.

Griffey was an OF, who historically speaking, didn’t bring anything “unicornish” to the table during his career. Henderson added things to the game that didn’t show up on the stat sheet. Catchers add things to the game that don’t show up on the stat sheet.

I really don't get how Trout is not getting any traction yet. His (thus far) 14 year career has been phenomenal. Where is the love?
He is orbiting my top BPA list at this point. Imho, he will be the first active player to get listed. And I don’t think that is too far off.

At the end of the day, a 14 year career is still a bit less than a lot of the players were talking about. We are in the range where he should probably be considered, though.

ARod is still on the board...

trout to me is still not there... his problem is that he has such an incomplete career... no, i dont mean that in the sense that he has not yet retired... i mean it as in he has nothing that pushes him to the top...

he has very little post season play, and no rings... he doesnt have the longevity milestones, and he doesnt have the single season stats that are amongst the best seasons of all time...

he is only what he is.... a great player who was the best player in baseball for an extended time... now of course that is enough to be top 40 of all time... but he is still against players who did similar things... and for longer, might not have been the BEST for as long though...

ARod probably has numerous people like me who will never give him support. Without his line-crossing, he would have been listed a LONG time ago.
