I get the impression that Wagner was talented enough that if he played in a more modern era he would've had a ton of HRs or slimmed down and stolen more bases.

He played in probably the 2nd generation of MLB players. It is hard to say how anyone from that era would have done if they were picked out of their time and inserted into today. Todays athletes have a lifetime of selection and training and science to fine tune their talents. Who knows if anyone from that time frame would even have made it past high school baseball facing the kind of lifelong competition todays players face.

Yeah but I think if you gave the Babe an aluminum bat he might kick some ass

Maybe. But he would be facing pitchers throwing stronger junk and hotter heat. And his alcohol and drug issues would put him in the Daryl Strawberry, Doc Gooden, Josh Hamilton group.

But maybe if you put them in the modern era, they'd work just as hard and science just as much as the current crop.

Well here is another big loss for the milkster.

I knew my list and our list would be different. Just annoying to see such a skewed list.

If it makes you feel any better, none of my three vote getters got this spot either.

I don’t mind being wrong. Just wish it was more balanced.

This is why I was pushing Oscar Charleston a few rounds ago. If we make a list that is dominated by older players, then wouldn’t it be nice to just honor one of the biggest criticisms about a period.

But once 10 past I stopped on that.

Or maybe he plays football instead. Or dies on the streets since he was an orphan.

who knows what butterfly effects take hold.

That's a pretty pessimistic view. I figured maybe with some adderall he wouldn't be so incorrigible and his dad wouldn't have to drop him off at an orphanage in the first place.

Then again maybe his childhood would have been Too good and he'd end up as one of those lazy fat kids that just plays video games all day instead of getting good at baseball.

Regardless, Lou Gehrig would still be fucked. (this feels like deja vu. Have we had this discussion before?)

Wow, this one is not really close. The message is clear-Fuck you Roger! That's what you get for throwing a broken bat at Pizza Man!
I get the impression that Henderson and Schmidt will both pass him up

which is more annoying.. because it ruins the poll... both sides... the lets vote Roger as the best pitcher available side, and the lets vote against Roger in every poll...

what we get is a 2nd runoff that none of us want...

After this round, I think I will be stumping for Clemens. And while he is getting steamrolled in this specific vote, I think/hope he uses this to gain traction moving forward.

I think I have Clemens, Schmidt, and Speaker as my next 3 in some order.

My logic is kinda based around "who is better than ARod and Pujols" and its not a very large list imo.

ARod is off my board completely. But Pujols may need some consideration as well. Speaker, imho, is in another tier down. He is clearly below his contemporaries of Wagner, Hornsby, Ruth, etc. and we have already picked that era dry. Considering pitchers and other eras is the way to go at this point.

Clemens
Robinson
Henderson
Schmidt
Pujols
Trout
