I'm going to drop one more post about downgrading Emmitt Smith due to having what many here have said was the greatest line in the history of football based on one HOF lineman who played with Smith for nine seasons.


You kind of did when you said this followed by the comment that the Lombardi Packers had the best OL as you referenced the number of Hall of Famers. I'm simply saying that Dallas OL was tremendous, dominant, and only had 1 HOF but it should be two. I also favored Emmitt over Dorsett because of his amazing ability to pick a hole and never devalued him because of his OL.

Great...we all agree Emmitt was better than Dorsett, but not as good as Payton. Barry for Jimmy.

But this is not uncommon with OL so the claim that Dallas didn't have a dominant OL with Emmitt because of the lack of Hall of Famers is a bit off base. You can be a great offensive lineman and not be in the Hall of Fame.

While both were great RBs. I'll go with Emmitt over Dorsett. He wasn't the biggest, strongest or fastest he was just a baller. He was a 3 down back, running catching and blocking. He was big game RB as well from what I remember.

Barry Sanders was the most magician-like and probably the funnest to waatch. I would've liked to have seen him kept in the game, but the Lions took him out too much in 1st n goal situations. The rub there though is that surely would've impacted his glossy career 5.0 ypc

OJ for a short period, 4 seasons or so, was the best RB I've seen play, but that window is too small when comparing him to Walter, Emmit, Barry etc.

Eric Dickerson was like poetry in motion. So smooth and effortless like running for him was as easy as breathing.

I never saw Jim Brown play and everyone who I've asked that did including my dad said he was the best. Then I found out from Brown himself that he didn't block. Not that he couldn't, but simply that he wouldn't. Not verbatim, but Brown told Steve Sabol I believe it was in an interview something along the lines of, You don't take a thoroughbred and make him a plowhorse. They even showed a play or two of Brown just standing there in the backffield letting defenders run by him to sack QB Frank Ryan. Brown did tell Sabol he would come to regret that, but damn, that's an extremely shitty attitude that I doubt would be well received by coaches, team-mates n fans today.

Also found this with a couple opinions stating JB was overrated n a hater apparently. It also touches on Brown's blocking or lack thereof. !st comment and the last comment in the link. An Indefensible Position: Jim Brown is Overrated

What I dont understand is why Jimbo Covert in the Hall with 2All Pros and 2 probowls......
But Nate Newton is not with 2 All Pros and 6 Pro Bowls.....

Newton played guard and tackle whike Jimbo played just tackle.

Agree with most every word. Going back to college OJ Simpson was the most exciting RB I've ever seen but it was too small of a window. When Peyton and Earl Campbell were at their peak I heard George Allen call Walter Payton the best RB in football and I instantly thought it was Campbell. But obviously when you look at the complete body of work it's Sweetness all day long. I just wish he wasn't a little bitch after that Super Bowl win, that really changed my opinion of him.

I will always believe LT was one of the best running backs of all time.

Virtually everyone who watched him play said Jim Brown was the greatest running back of all time. Just as you didn't need to see Babe Ruth to understand he was the greatest baseball player ever I gotta go with Jim Brown as the GOAT RB.

Did anybody ever consider Tony's olines? You might want to. They weren't slouches.

Tony Dorsett played under Landry who limited Tony Dorsett's number of carries. Tony was just a cog in Landry's system.
EMMITT had free reign to play in complete games. EMMITT didn't like being taken out of any game.
EMMITT had 4409 attempts........TD had 2936 attempts

Emmitt was a great blocker and pass catcher.
Tony had great quickness and acceleration.

It's like comparing a Porsche to a Ferrari.

I'll take a Ferrari by the way.
