Sorry guys, didn't get to see the game. Who looked better as our 3rd QB.

They both looked good. Johnson had a little screen pass to Palmer for a long TD, but it wasn't an amazing throw or anything. Tolzein looked good again. He didn't see a linemen on his throw that went for an int. and that cost him. That was the only major mistake i saw from Tolzein. Johnson looked a little better tonight. I'm still rooting for Tolzein.

I still think Tolzen is the man. He had a bit of a rough night, but I still see more of "it" in his play. JJ played well tonight, but he's not going to rip off runs like that against a starting D. Tolzen is a golden nugget and with time on the bench, and time to become more familiar with the offense, I see him being a great guy to lean on in a pinch if S hits the fan.

I'm keeping Tolzien over Johnson. Pretty easily actually.

i highly doubt he gets through waivers.

not speculating who'll be kept, but can't see four QB's making it? so if....IF Tolzien is the one who goes, so be it!

if he doesn't clear waivers, then we can't worry about it. the main thing is they keep the right guy with more potential.

I'd go with Tolzein, since Johnson and Kaepernick bring pretty much the same skill set it'd be nice to have that different style of play in the mix. Johnson was good but he wasn't so darn good that the 49ers would be stupid to cut him, he missed a bunch of throws too.

Tolzein because I think he has greater upside and when it comes to your 3rd string QB my personal feeling it should always be a developmental high upside guy.

I mean if you're down to your 3rd string QB than your season is likely in the toilet anyways so it might as well be a guy that has potential to be something (TJ Yates comes to mind).

I haven't seen last nights game yet (DVR caught it at 3AM) but from the other games I've watched I like Tolzein better. i think he has a much higher upside.

I probably go Tolzien, but Johnson made a strong case last night. He looked comfortable and was throwing well. Not to mention some good decisions running.

IF the decision becomes so 'neck and neck', we shoould keep JJ and just take our chances waiving Tolzien.

Tolzien won't clear waivers.

then so be it.

if JJ is better, then so be it.

It's about who has the better upside not who's better right now and I would say Tolzien beats out JJ there but JJ isn't exactly a terrible number 3 option.

Heck JJ could probably start for the Card right now.

Actually, it depends on what the team intends for the 3rd QB. If the intention is that someone who can come in in emergency situations and win games if both the #1 and #2 goes down, then the choice is "who is better now". If the intent is to develop a QB who can, in the future, challenge for a starting job, then the choice is "who has a better/bigger upside".

yes.

but just to clarify my post, my opinion did mean for future, not now.

Tolzien's more accurate than Johnson. Johnson's got more mobility than Tolzien. The better quarterback depends on how confident you are in your O-Line.

this is my line of thinking. tolzien and kap should be able to develop over the next couple years. i thought johnson would challenge kap for the back up spot, but that didn't materialize.
