Oh man, it's tough but based on pure enjoyment I'm going to go with

1.) Lonesome Dove
2.) Jeremiah Johnson
3.) Open Range

That's the short list. From here on it includes tons of Clint Eastwood.

Oh yeah, and do you have the Westerns Channel, part of the Starz lineup? If I could only take one channel with me to a remote island, it'd be the Westerns Channel. Best value in entertainment!

Hadn't thought about it in a while, but it really is amazing how much of a leap westerns took in portraying the protagonist between the John Wayne-era and the Clint Eastwood-era. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly will always be a classic for me. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to guage the attitude towards this spaghetti western when it was first released amidst the tailend of the heavy rotation westerns got on tv at the time. It really was apples and oranges.

I like John Wayne movies but don't love them. For me, the golden era of Westerns was the late 60s and 70s. I definitely preferred the Dukes last movies. I also really liked allot of Charles Bronson's Westerns. One of my top-10 all-time favorite Westerns is Breakheart Pass.

I agree, LOC, Unforgiven was incredible. I was lucky enough to see that one in the theaters. The final scene between Gene Hackman and Clint sent chills down my spine. I really liked the spare use of musical accompaniment.. it actually added to the film quite a bit for me.

Such an overlooked movie, it's so good. Man With No Name Trilogy are 3 obvious ones, and of the more recent ones I enjoyed the 3:10 To Yuma remake. Seems like they don't really make Westerns anymore, any idea why?

After spending a combined years watching probably hundreds and hundreds of different westerns, I really started getting into some obscure ones and was on a Sam Peckinpah kick for awhile. His that I enjoyed most was Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia with Warren Oates.
