Surprises me as well, didn't he sign a PTO at the start of last season with the Devils?!? I could be wrong about that, but I thought he was on the fringe of going to the KHL.

That seems like good value for a stud D like Hedman. He jumps near the top of the league, but most of the comps are several years old, so there'd some inflation in there.

The only thing I can think of is Bergevin was worried that someone else might eventually hire him after his inevitable firing in the near future. So therefore he made moves the last weeks to ensure that it doesn't happen, that no one ever hires him again. Its the only thing that makes sense to me.
