I've used this analogy before, and maybe I'm the only one that understands it or cares, but it's a lot like when they started enforcing the rules more strictly for the NHL back in 2005. When it first started, it seemed like the games were just constant penalties and everyone freaked out. Lots of people accused the refs of ruining the game and stuff. Then the players adjusted, and there weren't so many penalties, and now it's turned hockey into a much better sport overall. I see that being how it works for these basketball rules as well.
