Attendance drops for USC home football games - The Daily Breeze

"Look at the attendance," Kiffin said. "You'll be shocked."

Why was Kiffin interested? USC's home game two weeks ago against Syracuse drew only 65,873, the smallest crowd since 2002. The largest crowd this season was 73,821 against Utah, and that was with the Utes bringing an estimated 10,000-13,000 fans.

Gone are the days when Pete Carroll-coached teams routinely drew crowds of more than 90,000. In 2007, USC averaged 87,476 at the Coliseum. The Trojans averaged just 69,322 through three home games this season.

And so much for that 65,873 number, they were under 62,000 against Arizona.

schools in cities with other major draws (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB other major universities next door) never have attendance like schools located somewhere between bumfucked and boy you sure do got a purdy mouth (nebraska, gainsville, blacksburg, columbus et al). thought this was covered 1000+ times since the interwebs fired up.

USC is still looking at an average attendance decrease of 15,000-20,000.

And as a fan of a team whose fans are forced to choose to fly to a small middle of nowhere town instead of flying to a major city, LOL at that argument.

typical response for teams that predominantly have bandwagon fans

If you saw the first game against Minny, you'd see that the crowd was about half full.

You knew it was only going downhill once they got destroyed by Arizona State.

How does a team go from 90k to 60k and blame that on the fact that they live in a major city? Did LA get a football team and nobody but LA knew about it? Is there some draw to the Dodgers this year that nobody is aware of? Maybe strippers added to the bullpen? Although I don't know how they pay them. Did the Lakers decide to start playing ball early this year? It must be the LA Galaxy. They must be stealing all of USC's fans...

Pointing to multiple sporting events in a city will only get you so far. USC has fairweather fans. It is that simple. They see the 90s returning and are bailing early.

It's not trendy to go to USC games anymore. Why bother when you can go surfing or sking or any of that other dope shit out in Cali? Wake them up when USC is relevent again and they will come. Is it fair weather? Yeah, we would call it that. There they would just rather do something else then waste their time watching USC play when they know they have nothing to gain out of it at the end of the season.

This is correct.

True fans are there thick and thin. Nobody ever said USC, or miami, had true fans.

Sell out any games yet this year down in south beach?
