Ahhhh I see.......

I was up below Gavin's Point on Friday en sech.......that's where I lost a couple huge Pikes

didn't see any pikes this weekend but we half caught one with his mouth around the cat we were pulling in a couple weekends ago. once he got to the surface he let go but the cat was not in good shape.

Niobrara?

That's some fertile waters in through there..

last time i was there we fished right off of Niobrara State Park...this time we were a bit down river. sounds like everyone has been catching a bunch in that area. we were probably a mile or 2 south of Niobrara this weekend.

we didn't get any smallmouths...but if i remember correctly, we got at least one of each of the following...catfish (flathead, channel), walleye, sauger, crappie, drum, gar, sturgeon, and both a snapping turtle and a sand turtle. it was a wild weekend.

also we had the game and parks warden show up for the first time ever...my girlfriend didn't have a fishing license (we completely forgot about it...all of us have always gotten licenses and we just did not even think about it) and luckily he just gave her a warning. that just added a little more excitement to the day. i have been fishing for all of my 21 years and have never seen a game warden before saturday but as soon as he pulled up i knew exactly who he was and at that exact moment i remembered we hadn't gotten her a license.

There's a plethora of species up there. Sometimes when we get our walleye limit, we'll just sportfish for smallies the rest of the day.

Fun as hell to play them when you really don't care if you land them or not..

I'm heading back up some night this week to get one of them Pike...........I cannot let this go.

I was prepared to catch drum and catfish.............then put a spinner on based on a tip some guy gave us, and just started nailing Pike.

I just wasn't in the right league as far as my setup went. Had no steel leader, 8lb test, spinner made for smaller fish..........

Them Northern had me for lunch..........but I'm gonna get 'em back

we got most of them in the morning...by morning i mean like 9-noon. it's about a 45 min drive from where i stay and it is a bitch getting everyone up and moving. we just use nightcrawlers and minnows and do pretty well. the walleye seem to love the minnows though, we ran out of nightcrawlers (which the catfish were hitting on all day) and we would put multiple (dead) minnows on a hook and caught several 15-20 inch walleye.

The wardens are out in force. I've been checked 3 times this year and most of my buds have been checked more than once as well. Each time they looked at my fish.

Last time I was checked was at Wanahoo about 3 weeks ago.

Before this year, I think I've been checked twice my entire life..

they must be. my grandpa said he hadn't seen one in 15 years. my mom said she hadn't seen one since high school when they were breaking up a drinking party. the thing is we always get licenses, but it was my girlfriend's first time out with us and we completely spaced it off. thank god she just got a warning. it's like a 100 dollar fine, 50 dollar court fee, 50 dollars per fish we have, plus she has to buy an annual license.
