I don't think there's any doubt Jeter will be a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer. He was as clutch as it gets when it mattered most during their Championship teams. Winning matters. Jeter is definately a WINNER.

It's going to be tough watching the Yankee's without Jeter. I grew up watching him play and he quickly became on of my favorite players. After hearing this announcement I'll be going to see the Yankee's in KC in June 6-9.

In espect to just defense, Jeter cost his team more runs on defense than any player in history. I just wanted to follow up on that a bit more.

That statement is arguably -- or maybe inarguably, depending on your belief in defensive metrics -- a true statement. According to Baseball-Reference.com, the players who cost their teams the most runs on defense over their careers compared to an average defender at their position:

1. Derek Jeter: -236 runs
2. Gary Sheffield: -196 runs

I certainly hope so. I think he would make a decent coach because he seems to have quite a bit of baseball knowledge. He doesn't strike me as just a dumb player, he has done a decent job of adjusting to his declining skill set over the years.
