I disagree. Especially with the headed in a different direction part. It's not like they're looking to add 175 year old Paul Pierce or something. Aldridge is 29 and Jordan is 26. So you've got Aldridge at a high level for a good 5 more years and Jordan for 8-10. It would move them close to contender status immediately.

As long as they aren't giving up Randle, Clarkson, Russell or Kobe, then I really don't care who else they'd have to move.

If this were to actually happen, I'd be beyond shocked, but it's not as if the Lakers haven't ever pulled off some improbable moves before.

This is what i was mostly thinking. Don't give up any of our young core. We want to build a contender for YEARS to come...

I'm sure this will get a rise out of trojanfan... but gotta say kobes contract is the gift that keeps giving. 25 mil this season. if he was say 18-20 mil range these "multiple" big splashes writers are talking about would have a chance.

That's the key. Keep that young core of Randle, Clarkson and Russell together at least long enough to see if we have what we think we do. Aldridge and Jordan are vets, but still young enough that they can be key contributors for several years each.

As for Coon saying it can't be done. We'll see. Obviously the Lakers feel like they have a chance or they wouldn't be bothering to try. Either way, it's good to see them acting like the Lakers again.

If Kobe wasnt such a greedy bastard the Lakers could actually sign two max guys.

I'm just not sure a one dimensional poor free throw shooter in jordan is worth a max deal. but i admit he will get it somewhere

Doesn't get a rise out of me. Kobe's contract is what it is. I still agree with their reasons for giving him the contract they did. I'm not sure it's what I would have done, but they didn't consult me.

Either way, they have the space to get at least one max guy and may be able to clear enough to get another max or close to max guy. Then, next year, they can go after another. So, his contract hasn't been quite the albatross that many have claimed.

Obviously, it would be better to be able to just offer 2 max deals, but they can't. So,they're just going to have to be creative if they want to add more than 1 this year.

How was Kobe greedy? There was no negotiation. The Lakers made the offer, Kobe asked if they would still be able to add players to help win and they said yes. So he signed. Not sure how that's greedy.

He's young enough to work on the offensive part of his game. His main value right now is that he's arguably the best rim defender in the league and pulled down almost 15 boards per game last year. Besides, it's not like the Lakers have never won a title with a center who couldn't shoot free throws.

Ahh, some just REFUSE to get it...

Meanwhile, greedy "KINGS" opt out every year...

Yeah, he's opting out this year for $400,000, but Kobe is greedy.

Some Cavs fans need to stop swimming in that nasty ass river.

From what I can tell, the Spurs are the team that holds all of the cards. Once they figure out what they are doing, then the Lakers get their guy.

"The Lakers and Bryant arrived at the salaries so that the team will have the financial flexibility to pursue one top free agent on the market next summer."

Well if they really wanted two they COULD have ARRIVED at a salary less. But you know how it goes :laugh3:

Houston I think is definitely a possibly destination for either Alridge or possibly Love if Love does end up leaving.

Houston went to the conference finals- has the shot blocking center to protect the big man they sign and allow that guy to play the 4....

Honestly- I really think Alridge and Love- neithe one wants to be in a situation where they have to be a major defender. The Cavs with Mozgov and thompson let Love do his thing- Howard with Love would let Love do his thing...Even Tyson Chandler could be that guy that lets the other 4 really be the 4 and do what they do best.
