I saw that.

I just think it comes down to the Cavs really dont want to pay this guy 17 million a year unless they absolutely have to- and they just signed Kevin Love for 5 years to be their PF. Its a tough spot to be in- especially with the cap going up.

I mean- next year with over 20 teams having room for max players- and Thompson will be one of the only young big men on the market. What does he get as a free agent next year? That is the hard part. Next offseason is so hard to predict but I have to believe he will get offers for at LEAST 15M a year next year just because of the cap and what not.

tough tough situation. Should be interesting to see how it plays out. If he plays on a one year deal and the Cavs then offer him the best deal over the summer he is really going to say No to that just out of spite?

But why would that matter? You said that Gilbert was willing to shell out all the money in the world. Why won't they get this done now?

because it hurts their potential flexiblity going forward paying 2 PF's max money when one of them is only "worth" max money because of his recent playoff performance/room for growth/rising salary cap/inability to replace.

Its tough like I said because with the salary cap floor- and all those teams having money- its highly likely someone gives him a deal for more money then he is "worth".

What would you do if you are the Cavs? Would you just pay him the max? Or would you try and get him for like 15M a year and play hardball hoping no one else is willing to give him more next year?

I really dont know- its a tough question. If they thought Thompson was a true max player they dont hesitate to get it done- but I think they feel if they give Thompson a 5 year 94 million dollar deal they could look back in year 3 of that and really regret it if Thompson levels off and does not continue to improve.

With Love and Kyrie signed to relatively modest deals compared to what will be coming down the pipe- at some point - once hte cap gets in the low 100's- theyd have flexibility if they pass on Thompson.

if you were the Cavs what would you do in that situation?

Yeah, Cavs are in a bit of a tough spot. Even though you really don't want to be paying max money to 2 players at the same position, they have completely different skill sets so the Cavs wouldn't necessarily be paying 2 max deals on a redundancy.

On the other hand, that would still be an awful lot of money tied up in one position, even with the cap going up.

End of the day, it'll come down to what Lebron wants vs. what Gilbert is willing to shell out.

I'm not going back through this thread. But this is what we've warned Wiggy about. Personally, I don't think Thompson is worth anywhere near Love; he's a decent defender and great rebounder, but that's it. At least with Love, he's got talent, is top 5 at his position (or near) and can hit the 3 which really opens the lanes. Lebron's trying to win a title while also getting his boy's (more his agent) paid. This is where the actual GM has a decision to make and is where he earns his paycheck.

You are so TOTALLY backtracking now and saying EXACTLY what the rest of us have said all along.

You want me to re post one, two, three, four....or more... of your MANY posts saying what a great situation the Cavs were in because of the youth, work ethic, attitude and health of Tristan?

The real problem Gilbert has/will have if he doesn't agree to what we all read was previously agreed, is that he has swung the door WIDE OPEN for James to have his excuse to leave if/when needed.

they are in a great situation and the door is wide freaking open.

Its restricted free agency. Each side is using what leverage is available to them. What exactly did you think was going to happen? lol.

Tristan has a lot of good things going for him including those things- his work ethic, talent, playoff performance, rising salary cap, unavailability to replace, elite rebounding, great attitude ETC. He has a lot of leverage. But as a restricted free agent- the Cavs also hold some leverage in that they could force him to play this year at like 8 million and that only Philly and Portland have cap room- until next year when practically everyone will have a ton of cap room to chase after only a few even semi-worthy free agents (one of the reasons why Whiteside will likely be gone from the Heat).

and please- save your "LEBron is leaving" for your own whining and complaining. Your also the one who kept saying LeBron would not sign until Thompsons deal was done AND htat LeBron would never play for Gilbert. Its about time you come to the conclusion that as far as predicting what LeBron is going to do- you are clueless.

Actually it was your trusted reporters ( you know, the same ones that said James was pissed about Miller) that said the Tristan deal was done pretty
much on day 1 and that James wouldn't even begin to negotiate before it was done. CORRECT?

And YES,
I did say that James would never play for Gilbert, BUT, as I've said before, I never thought in a million years that a billionaire would turn into James' bitch ( and especially after HE wrote the letter about him).

See, James really isn't playing FOR Gilbert, he's controlling the team that HE plays on.

And show me where I said he WAS leaving?
I said that if Gilbert even backs up 1" on anything that he promised him, then James has the reason/excuse in place, in his mind IF after he fails again this year, or at any other point to leave with justification.

And, YOU are the one who said 10000000X that Gilbert will spend any and everything, so why would/should leverage be needed?

You now act like you thought it would play out like this, when you know you thought/said just the opposite.
Everyone else here said he wasn't close to the reported number flying around was, but you on several occasions said he was.

You're such a clown.

what exactly is the point your making? Is there one or is this just another example of how you like to complain and bitch and whine about Gilbert and LeBron and the Cavs?

It's pretty clear. I mean, everyone else on this board sees it anyway.

that you're flip-flopping like a fish outta water...?
flip flopping about what?

about the Cavs window? LOL you have got to be kidding me if thats what you are talking about. LeBron has made now what? 5 straight Finals? It will AT LEAST be 9. No one in the East is challenging the Cavs during LEBrons 30-34, Loves 26-30 and Kyries 23-27.

at least you admit that itll be a LONG time before you put on an NBA Finals game and dont see the Clevleand Cavaliers performing ;)

im tellin ya man...let go of the hate...embrace LeBron....its not everyday you see a player of such magnitude. Enjoy the greatness CL! ENJOY IT!

I actually have a couple t-shirts from Cavs playoff games they leave on the seats. I would be happy to fed-ex you one if you promise to take a picture in it and post it as your avatar!

Especially CL - I mean - you had to be a fan of Showtime right? Look at the Cavs right now and that offense they put together towards the end of the season? its just too amazing....seeing Love/Kyrie/Bron putting it all together. Thats basketball history man. Ya know how the Suns had the 7 seconds or less offense? This Cavs offense is going to earn its own historic moniker like Showtime , or 7 Seconds or Less. ENJOY IT mi compadre! Greatness- especially historic greatness (that this team will achieve) is a rare and beautiful thing! Let go of the Hate!

The point?
Coming from you?

I'll slow it sown for you.

For nearly 2 months all of here have been telling you that Gilbert nor any other owner is looking to pay outrageous amounts of luxury tax regardless of net worth. You, on the other hand have told us that he's worth 5 billion and money was no factor.

We have also told you that while Tristan is a useful player, he isn't near a max worthy player.
You, on the other hand said that he was a bargain for what we being reported.

And, where did I complain, bitch, or whine about anything?

It's just ironic, YOU are the one who over and over posted that Arison was cheap which lead to James' departure (which is totally fiction).

Now, James and Gilbert are in a reported salary dispute over Tristan and you act like its business as usual.

lol...

again...I have to think you just slugged down a bottle of whiskey if you think i said that Tristan is a "bargain" for what is being reported because I have said the same exact thing for months upon months upon months- That Tristan has a ton of leverage because of the salary cap exploding, the Cavs unability to replace his salary- plus- his work ethic, pick and roll defense, rebounding, leadership etc.--- ABSOLUTELY no where would I say Tristan Thompson is a "bargain" at 16 million a season-

again- if you can find where Isaid Tristan is a bargain for 16M a season- then knock youself out- but its your typical MO of complete and total fabrication.

here is my post from July 2nd you lying sack of shit (Turnup): BARGAIN RIGHT?!

Thompson is not worth 16 million dollars- the circumstances obviously drove that up- that and the rising cap. I mean- what after that playoff performance and everything annd the fact that he is 24 years old and improving, and that he never gets hurt, and that he shares agents with LeBron, and the fact that its not like the Cavs would be able to use the cap room it would save on him for someone else since they are already over thecap---- I mean- with where the Cap is going you could justify 12...the fact he knew they could replace him and how he kicked ass at theright time really worked out for him and it sounds like he is going to get 16 a season.....all though apparently its not finished yet.

ahhhhh....its so vindicating finding posts that directly contradict and make Turnup look like the bitter whining fool that he is. LOL
