I feel something negative may have happened. My facebook feed is full of jokes about the size of Tom Brady's balls.

Was it only the Pats side deflating them? I mean, the refs check all balls put in play. This is pretty much the stupidest thing to get super jammed up about. Of course, my Indy friends took to facebook to 1) request the entire Pats team be drug tested and 2) say Belichek shouldn't make the HoF one day because he has no integrity RE: running up the score.

I posted the link because it just seems like there is always something questionable about NE's post-season wins. I'm not jammed up about it. I just can't think of any sport with any team that has more controversy attached to them than the Pats with old Bill Belichick. He's like the politician of pro sports coaches. Going back to the Tuck Rule ages ago, to this new controversy. There is always something shady.

And latest controversy aside, the Pats are definitely the team of the 2000's. Both the past decade, and the current one. Pretty incredible what they've accomplished in the past 15 seasons. Six superbowl appearances since 2001. Thank god for David Tyree

Leaked report says 11 of the 12 balls used by the Pats under-inflated:

NFL Reportedly Finds 11 of 12 Balls Used in AFC Championship Were Under-Inflated | Bleacher Report

Don't know exactly what the league is going to do, but I'd imagine it will be pretty serious. I don't buy into any of this "put the Colts in the SB" stuff that some people are spouting because under-inflated balls isn't going to result in an extra 38 points. But, assuming that this report is accurate, they need to be punished severely.

Even if it was really close you cannot reverse a win, but I do think its very serious and needs to be punished harshly.

In a related story, 11 out of 12 fans believe Bill Belichick has an over-inflated ego so it balances out.

"under-inflated balls" that nobody could feel were under-inflated?

talk about a non-story. the goober in charge of filling the balls probably didn't calibrate his gage. what could 1/4 psi less pressure possibly do to improve your chances of winning a football game?

Heck of a lot easier to grip and throw a cold wet football that is slightly under inflated. And the one time a Colt touched the ball the Pats were using, after an INT, it was noticed right away.

Why the refs didn't notice, or didn't say anything I do not know.

Did you even read the article? It was 2 lbs of pressure, not 1/4, and it says right in there that an under-inflated ball is easier to grip in inclement weather, like the heavy rain they had during the game. It also says how when one of the balls made its way to the Indy sideline following an interception that the Colts noticed it and reported it.

even still, any advantages or disadvantages would be shared by the colts and patriots yes? I can't imagine the colts only used the 1 ball out of 12 that was properly inflated when they were on offense.

I dont understand how Luck or a colts rb wasnt the first to notice it ? I didnt read the article but i heard a colts lb noticed it first

Former punter Mitch Berger was on the radio saying he would pay the ball boy $100 to make sure he got the balls that he had scuffed up the way he liked pregame in order to make the balls go farther. He said ballboys would use the helmet hand pumps to deflate balls all the time after the game started :noidea:

Haha, I'll give you a pass on this one because I don't think the article mentions it.

Each team provides 12 game balls to the officials for their team to use on offense, so the Colts would have been using different balls. The league rules allow for some variation in the pressure and they also allow for some small variation in the way/degree to which the balls are "scuffed."

So basically, each team can - to a minor degree - prepare the balls to their preference.

To me though this still has to be on the league. The officials had to have handled the footballs during the game. If they were deflated when they were inspected then that's an even bigger problem. The league has to be careful how they handle this because I can see them being equally at fault.

Obviously it's a developing story, but the information currently seems to be that the balls were properly inflated at the time of initial inspection.

Regarding the officials handling the balls (hehe) during the game, that's one that I've thought about too. Couple thoughts (though I have no idea how true they are) are that a) the officials are handling them in a much different way, just picking them and moving from place to place, rather than gripping strongly/precisely to not fumble, catch, pass, etc. and b) most (all?) of the officials are not former players - at least at high levels - and perhaps just wouldn't notice. Not sure on that one, but I know that I'd be a lot less likely to notice a 2 PSI difference compared to what a guy like Tom Brady would surely notice.

Don't they use their own balls? As I understand it, each offense uses its own balls so Luck would have never handled Brady's balls.

Ok that one I just straight misunderstood. I thought the home team provided 12 balls for the game that had to meet a measurement. Both teams used the 12 balls provided by the home team.

Carry on with your regularly scheduled 'this is a big deal' programming. awaz is now up to speed. thanks for your cooperation.

yah i wasnt aware of that until sabres posted it. thanks ... i thought for sure that Luck would have felt that Bradys balls were softer to the touch
